Wells, a recent Ocean Springs High School graduate and incoming football player at Southwest Mississippi Community College, disappeared after traveling with friends to Horn Island off the Mississippi Gulf Coast during Fourth of July celebrations. According to investigators, he was last seen on the island before the rest of the group returned to the mainland without him, prompting an extensive search involving local authorities, the U.S. Coast Guard, and volunteer rescue organizations.
After two days of searching, a body later identified as Wells was discovered near the northwestern end of Horn Island.
