Lionel Richie’s Team Shares Encouraging Health Update After His St. Louis Hospitalization

Lionel Richie is back home and recovering after a health scare that sent the 77-year-old music legend to the hospital following his August 29 concert in St. Louis. The newest update from those close to Richie is reassuring: he has returned to Los Angeles and is reportedly “doing great.”

Richie voluntarily checked himself into a hospital after performing at The Muny in Forest Park. During the final portion of the concert, fans noticed that something appeared different when he asked his team to bring a chair onto the stage.

The singer then finished his closing number, “All Night Long,” while seated. What initially seemed like a small adjustment became more concerning when it was revealed that Richie had gone to the hospital for precautionary testing after leaving the venue.

Richie was admitted to the ICU, where doctors conducted cardiac-related tests. Earlier reports had also indicated that possible mild dehydration was being investigated, but no specific heart condition was publicly confirmed.

After spending approximately three days under medical care, Richie was released and returned home to Los Angeles on September 2. A person familiar with his condition said he was doing well following the hospital stay.

The encouraging news comes after several days of uncertainty for fans, particularly because the St. Louis incident was Richie’s second health-related episode onstage in only a few months.

During a June concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, Richie told the audience that he was feeling dizzy and eventually had to end the performance early. Paramedics met him backstage, and he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

That earlier scare forced him to postpone two performances while he rested. Richie later returned to the tour and reassured fans that he was feeling better, even using humor when discussing the experience onstage.

The latest hospital visit understandably renewed those concerns, especially after concertgoers saw Richie needing to sit during a song normally associated with one of the most energetic moments of his shows.

For now, however, there is no indication that Richie is immediately returning to the stage. His schedule gives him several weeks to rest and recover before his next planned performance.

Richie is currently scheduled to resume his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire on September 26 in San Francisco. No cancellation of that concert has been announced as of the latest update.

After the ICU stay, cardiac testing and worrying scenes during his St. Louis finale, the latest news is therefore the update fans had been hoping for: Lionel Richie is out of the hospital, back home in Los Angeles and reportedly doing great as he takes time to recover.
