Lionel Richie has given fans a major reason for relief after his recent health scare following a concert in St. Louis, Missouri. The legendary singer has now returned home and is reportedly “doing great” after spending three days in the hospital.
Richie, 77, checked himself into a St. Louis hospital after performing at The Muny on August 29. The decision came after he experienced discomfort during the final portion of his performance and wanted to have medical tests performed as a precaution.
During the concert, Richie asked his team to bring him a chair while performing “All Night Long,” eventually completing the final portion of the show while seated. He was also seen drinking electrolytes during the performance.
The hospitalization initially raised concern because Richie was admitted to an intensive care unit for evaluation. Reports indicated that doctors were looking into possible dehydration as well as conducting precautionary cardiac tests.
The latest update is considerably more reassuring. PEOPLE reports that Richie has been released from the hospital and is back at his home in Los Angeles, where he is said to be doing well following the three-day stay.
The episode was particularly concerning because it followed another health scare earlier this year. In June, Richie became dizzy during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, and the performance was cut short. Two subsequent shows were postponed while he recovered.
Despite those setbacks, Richie returned to the stage and continued his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. The current “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour has kept the veteran performer busy as he continues to entertain audiences across North America.
For now, there has been no announcement that Richie is stepping away from performing permanently. His next scheduled concert is September 26 in San Francisco, although fans will understandably be watching for further updates before that appearance.
The latest reports have therefore brought some welcome reassurance after several anxious days. While details about the medical evaluations remain private, the news that Richie is home and reportedly doing great will undoubtedly come as a relief to his longtime fans.
After decades of unforgettable performances and an extraordinary career, Richie’s latest health scare has reminded fans just how much they still value seeing him onstage. For now, the focus remains on his recovery and hoping that the music legend continues to feel stronger in the days ahead.
