“The Voice” is preparing for one of the biggest hosting changes in its history. Carson Daly will return for Season 30, but when the franchise comes back in spring 2027 for its special celebrity edition, someone else will be standing in his familiar position.
Daly has been part of “The Voice” since the competition premiered in 2011. He has hosted every season through the upcoming Season 30 while also serving as a producer, making him one of the few constants throughout the show’s many coaching changes.
That is why NBC’s announcement about Season 31 immediately caught viewers’ attention. The next installment will be called “The Voice: Celebrity,” and actress, singer and television personality Keke Palmer will take over hosting duties for the special format.
The announcement initially led to speculation that Daly might be permanently leaving after Season 30. However, Daly quickly addressed those concerns himself and made it clear that reports describing Season 30 as his definitive final season do not tell the full story.
Daly said directly that he is not leaving “The Voice.” Instead, he explained that the franchise is experimenting with two different formats—the traditional competition in fall 2026 and the celebrity edition in spring 2027—to see how each works.
He also explained why Palmer was chosen for the celebrity version. Daly believes the new format needs a different kind of host and said he does not consider himself the right person for that particular edition. He described Palmer as a perfect fit for the job.
Even though Daly will not appear as the on-camera host of “The Voice: Celebrity,” he will remain heavily involved behind the scenes. He is continuing as a producer and will help launch the new version of the competition.
Season 31 will change much more than just the host. Instead of undiscovered singers auditioning for a chance to build their careers, the celebrity edition will feature recognizable actors, athletes, influencers, comedians, reality personalities and other famous contestants showing what they can do as singers.
The coaching lineup will change as well. Queen Latifah and Riley Green will continue after making their coaching debuts during Season 30, while Joe Jonas will join them as a Coach for the celebrity competition.
Palmer’s arrival is therefore part of a much larger attempt to make Season 31 feel different from the traditional show. New features including Voice Boot Camp, a VIP Room and a Workroom are expected to give viewers additional looks at the celebrity contestants preparing and reacting behind the scenes.
Before any of that happens, Daly still has an important milestone ahead of him. He returns to host Season 30 beginning September 21 alongside Coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green, continuing the role he has held for 16 years.
What happens after “The Voice: Celebrity” remains open. Daly has specifically said he is not permanently walking away, and reports indicate that a future return to the traditional format remains possible. So while Season 30 will be followed by the first “Voice” season without Daly as its on-camera host, this is better described as a temporary step away for a new experimental format—not a confirmed farewell to the franchise.
