The Voice is officially back for its milestone 30th season, and the competition is looking noticeably different this time around. From a new coaching lineup to major changes in the format, NBC is giving viewers plenty of reasons to pay attention.
One of the biggest updates comes during the Live Shows, when fans will have a more direct role in deciding which artists continue their journey. Season 30 is introducing two new voting methods that will change how viewers can support their favorite singers.
Instead of relying on a single traditional voting method, fans will be able to vote through SMS and TikTok during the Live Shows. The new system is designed to make the audience’s involvement more immediate as the competition moves toward the finale.
The return of the Live Shows is another major part of the change. Season 30 will feature six weeks of live performances, bringing back the real-time element that has been a familiar part of the series. Results will also be announced on the same night as the performances.
For viewers choosing SMS voting, the process will involve sending an eligible artist’s name to the short code provided during the broadcast. Fans who want to vote for multiple artists must send separate messages for each one.
TikTok users will have another option. During voting, The Voice will provide a designated pinned post on its official TikTok account featuring the eligible artists. Viewers can vote by commenting the name of an artist, with each comment counting as a vote for that performer. A public TikTok account is required for this method.
The changes are not limited to voting. Season 30 is also bringing back live competition in a much bigger way, with the Live Shows airing simultaneously on NBC and Peacock across all U.S. time zones for the first time.
Before the competition reaches that stage, however, contestants have to survive several new twists.
One of them is the First In Button, which was introduced during the Blind Auditions. When multiple coaches turn their chairs for the same artist, the coach who turned first can use the button to claim that artist before the singer makes the final decision. Each coach can use the button only once.
Then comes Cut Week, which brings another significant change to the road toward the Live Shows. Each coach will send two artists directly through, while five others compete for the remaining position on their team.
That process initially creates a Top 12, but viewers will then have another opportunity to influence the competition by voting one additional artist into the Live Shows, creating a Top 13.
The coaching panel itself is also different this season. Returning coaches Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson are joined by newcomers Queen Latifah and country singer Riley Green, giving the milestone season a fresh combination of musical backgrounds and coaching styles.
Season 30 premiered on September 21, 2026, with a three-night premiere event before returning to its regular schedule. The early Blind Auditions have already introduced viewers to a wide range of performers and delivered several four-chair turns and unexpected coach battles.
With the First In Button, Cut Week, the return of six weeks of Live Shows and two new ways for fans to vote, The Voice is changing several familiar parts of its competition.
And when the Live Shows finally arrive, viewers will have more direct opportunities than before to make their voices heard — and potentially help determine which artist ultimately reaches the end of the competition.
