Chari walked onto The Voice stage carrying much more than hopes of earning a chair turn. The 31-year-old surgical technologist chose a song closely connected to her late parents, and by the time her Blind Audition ended, all four coaches wanted her.
For her Season 30 audition, Chari performed Oleta Adams’ “Get Here,” delivering a powerful and controlled performance that steadily captured the attention of Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah and Riley Green.
The song carried a particularly emotional meaning for Chari. Before taking the stage, she explained that both of her parents had died and that they were responsible for helping inspire her love of music.
Her father had introduced her to “Get Here,” while it was also one of the final songs her mother heard her sing. That history made choosing it for one of the biggest performances of her life especially meaningful.
Once Chari began singing, the coaches quickly recognized what she could do. One by one, the chairs turned until she had achieved one of the biggest accomplishments possible during a Blind Audition — a four-chair turn.
When the performance ended, Levine remained standing and made it clear just how strongly Chari had impressed him. Green was equally enthusiastic, praising the way her voice filled the room and describing the performance as flawless.
Clarkson focused on Chari’s remarkable journey from working as a surgical technologist to standing on The Voice stage. She told Chari that singers like her are exactly why the competition exists — talented people who may have spent years pursuing careers away from the spotlight while carrying an extraordinary voice with them.
Levine then made an especially confident pitch. After reminding Chari of his history on the show, he told her he believed she possessed something he had been waiting to hear during the Blind Auditions and even suggested she had the potential to win the competition.
Queen Latifah wasn’t about to let Chari go without making her own case. Playing off Chari’s profession, she praised the “surgical precision” with which the singer had approached the song while still making the performance feel uniquely her own.
Green also tried to win her over with a simple but clever proposal. As a first-time coach who has never won The Voice, he suggested that perhaps he and Chari could try to achieve that milestone together.
But after listening to all four pitches, Chari made her decision: she chose Queen Latifah, giving the first-time coach another major victory during the Blind Auditions.
Afterward, Latifah revealed just how much landing Chari meant to her. She explained that when she accepted the coaching role, she had hoped for the opportunity to help an artist with Chari’s talent receive the recognition she deserved. Now Chari officially joins Team Queen, turning an emotional tribute to her parents into the beginning of a completely new chapter on The Voice.
