Carson Daly’s television career is entering another interesting chapter as his role within The Voice franchise prepares to change.
The longtime host has been the familiar face guiding contestants through The Voice since the NBC competition premiered in 2011, appearing through all 30 seasons while also serving as a producer behind the scenes.
But Season 31 will look dramatically different.
NBC has announced that Keke Palmer will host The Voice: Celebrity, a special celebrity edition arriving in 2027 with Riley Green, Queen Latifah and Joe Jonas serving as coaches.
That announcement originally led many viewers to believe Daly had completely quit The Voice after Season 30.
Daly himself pushed back against that interpretation.
When fans asked whether he was leaving the franchise, his answer was simple:
“Nope.”
He explained that he didn’t believe he was the right host for the celebrity edition and praised Palmer as the perfect person for the new format.
Daly also confirmed that he will remain involved behind the scenes as a producer while helping launch the spinoff.
Still, something happening away from The Voice has now caught viewers’ attention.
Daly has recently been appearing much more prominently on NBC’s Today.
The 53-year-old has reportedly anchored weekend editions of the morning show for three consecutive weeks, in addition to the weekday role viewers already know him for.
That has immediately sparked speculation among fans that NBC may be testing Daly for an expanded position on the long-running morning program.
There has been no official announcement of a permanent promotion, so claims that Daly has already landed a major new Today job go beyond what NBC has confirmed.
But the repeated weekend appearances are notable.
Daly has been part of Today since 2013, initially joining the program to oversee its social-media-focused Orange Room before becoming one of the show’s regular anchors and contributors.
His schedule has always required balancing two very different television worlds.
The Voice is filmed largely in Los Angeles.
Today originates from New York.
That means Daly has spent years traveling between coasts while also raising four children with his wife, Siri.
Recent reporting has suggested that reducing that constant travel and spending additional time near his family have become increasingly important considerations for him.
And Today isn’t Daly’s only project outside The Voice.
He is also returning to one of the programs that originally made him famous.
Daly has filmed a Total Request Live reunion special, returning to the iconic Times Square location associated with the MTV show he hosted during its peak years.
The reunion is being produced for Roku and is expected to arrive in 2027, with several stars associated with the TRL era involved in the project.
That means Daly’s next chapter could look considerably different from the television schedule he has maintained for the last 15 years.
There is the expanded Today presence.
There is the nostalgic TRL reunion.
And there is a new behind-the-scenes role helping produce The Voice: Celebrity rather than standing onstage hosting it.
For longtime Voice viewers, seeing somebody else hold the microphone will still be a major adjustment.
Daly has hosted every season since the beginning, surviving countless coach changes while remaining one of the show’s few constants.
But his latest career moves suggest that stepping away from the celebrity edition isn’t the same thing as stepping away from television.
In fact, Daly may simply be shifting where viewers see him most.
Whether his recent weekend appearances eventually become an official Today promotion remains to be seen.
For now, one thing is clear:
Carson Daly isn’t disappearing — his NBC career is simply starting to look different.
