The Voice is preparing for one of its biggest transformations yet, and executive producer Audrey Morrissey has revealed an unexpected development surrounding Season 31. The upcoming celebrity edition has already surprised the production team, particularly because of how seriously its famous contestants approached the competition.
For the first time in the show’s history, The Voice will feature an entire season of celebrity contestants rather than aspiring singers hoping for their first major breakthrough. The special edition, titled The Voice: Celebrity, is scheduled to premiere in spring 2027.
However, producers established one important requirement when selecting participants. Being famous was not enough to secure a place in the competition, and celebrities needed genuine singing ability before they could step onto the stage.
Morrissey explained that the goal was not to teach celebrities how to sing. Instead, the production team searched for recognizable personalities from acting, sports, reality television, and other fields who already possessed impressive vocal talent.

That casting decision means contestants will still face the pressure of the show’s famous Blind Auditions. Regardless of their popularity or professional achievements, they must deliver performances strong enough to convince a coach to turn around.
But the biggest surprise came during filming. Morrissey admitted that the production team had not fully anticipated just how competitive the celebrity contestants would become once the competition began.
Rather than treating the experience as a casual television appearance, the stars reportedly approached their performances with determination. Their willingness to rehearse, improve, and compete seriously made a strong impression on the producers.
Morrissey suggested that their competitive attitudes reflected the qualities that had already helped them succeed in their respective careers. Even established celebrities appeared eager to prove themselves in an unfamiliar musical environment.

Season 31 will also introduce a significantly different coaching lineup. Queen Latifah and Riley Green are returning after their Season 30 debuts, while Joe Jonas will join them as the third coach.
Another major change involves the hosting position. Keke Palmer will lead the celebrity edition, replacing longtime presenter Carson Daly for this special format. Daly will remain involved behind the scenes as a producer.
Viewers can also expect new features designed specifically for the celebrity competition. Voice Boot Camp will reveal how contestants prepare for their auditions, while the VIP Room and Workroom will offer additional glimpses into their experiences and interactions.
Despite the growing excitement, the identities of the celebrity contestants remain undisclosed. NBC has not yet announced the complete lineup or an exact premiere date, leaving fans waiting to discover which familiar faces will compete.
With famous contestants demonstrating unexpected determination, a new coaching panel, and major changes to the familiar format, Season 31 could deliver a very different kind of competition. For Morrissey and the production team, the biggest revelation so far has been discovering just how seriously these celebrities want to win.
