The Voice Season 30 is preparing for one of the biggest changes in the show’s history as a brand-new elimination round threatens to send 15 talented singers home in a single episode. Called Cut Week, the new format replaces the traditional Knockout Rounds and Playoffs, creating an intense competition in which coaches must make difficult decisions while viewers receive one final opportunity to save a favorite contestant.
The dramatic shake-up comes after the conclusion of the Battle Rounds, which narrowed the competition to 28 remaining singers. Coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green each enter Cut Week with seven contestants, including six Battle Round winners and one artist acquired through a Steal. However, fewer than half of those remaining performers will advance to the next stage.
Unlike previous seasons, which featured separate Knockout and Playoff rounds before the Live Shows, Season 30 combines those stages into one demanding elimination event. The change significantly increases the pressure on contestants, giving them fewer opportunities to prove themselves before facing the possibility of elimination. It also places greater responsibility on the coaches, who must decide which artists have the strongest potential to succeed in the live competition.
Under the new rules, each coach will begin by selecting two contestants to advance automatically to the Live Shows. These decisions will be based on the performances and progress the singers have demonstrated throughout the season. For the eight artists chosen across all four teams, the selections will provide immediate relief as they secure their places without having to compete in another elimination performance.
The remaining five contestants on each team will then face a much more difficult challenge. All five must perform for their coach, but only one will earn the final available position on that team. This means that four singers from each group will miss out on direct advancement, regardless of how impressive their performances may be. With 20 contestants fighting for just four positions, the competition is expected to become especially intense.
Once the coaches complete their selections, each team will have three contestants moving forward, creating a Top 12. However, the competition includes an additional twist that gives viewers an important role in determining the final lineup. Rather than allowing the coaches to make every decision, the show will offer the public an opportunity to bring one more contestant into the Live Shows.
Through the special viewer vote, one additional singer will earn a place in the competition, expanding the Top 12 into the official Top 13. The result means that one coach will enter the Live Shows with four contestants, while the other three coaches will have three each. This final public selection could provide an important second opportunity for an artist who narrowly misses out on advancement through their coach’s decision.
By the end of Cut Week, the field will shrink from 28 contestants to just 13, meaning 15 singers will be eliminated from the competition. The dramatic reduction represents the largest elimination event in the show’s history. With so many contestants facing elimination at once, even singers who delivered memorable Blind Auditions and successful Battle Round performances will find themselves under considerable pressure.
The historic Cut Week episode is scheduled to air on Monday, November 2, 2026, beginning at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC. The special two-hour broadcast will also introduce a new time slot for the remainder of the season. Following Cut Week, the Live Shows will begin on November 9, with six weeks of performances leading toward the Season 30 finale on December 14. The live competition will also introduce same-night voting results, giving viewers a more immediate role in deciding which artists advance.
With Cut Week approaching, Clarkson, Levine, Latifah, and Green face some of their most important decisions of the season. Each coach must balance vocal ability, artistic identity, consistency, and potential while deciding which contestants deserve the limited places available. Although 15 singers will see their journeys end, the new public save ensures that viewers will have a final opportunity to influence the competition before the Live Shows begin, making this historic elimination round a defining moment of The Voice Season 30.
