The Voice Fans Slam Season 30’s New Voting Rules as Viewers Demand the Return of a Popular Feature

The Voice Season 30 is facing growing criticism from viewers over its newly introduced voting system, with some longtime fans calling the changes unfair and demanding the return of a familiar feature. As the NBC singing competition enters its first-ever Cut Week, audiences are discovering that the traditional voting experience has changed significantly. Instead of using the official voting app they previously relied on, supporters are now being directed toward text messages and TikTok to help their favorite contestants advance.

The controversy comes during one of the most important stages of the competition. Cut Week, which premiered on November 2, replaces the traditional Knockout Rounds and Playoffs with a new elimination format. Coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Riley Green, and Queen Latifah each begin with seven remaining contestants, but only a limited number can continue into the Live Shows.

Under the new rules, each coach selects two singers to advance automatically before the remaining five compete for one additional team position. Once all four coaches have made their decisions, 12 contestants will have secured their places. America then receives an opportunity to save one additional artist, completing the Top 13 and sending 15 other performers home.

However, the new voting methods have quickly become a major source of frustration. Several viewers expressed disappointment after discovering that the familiar The Voice voting app was no longer part of the announced voting process. One frustrated supporter declared, “I will never use TikTok and I will not text to vote.” The comment reflected concerns among viewers who preferred the convenience of voting through the show’s previous system.

Other fans shared similar reactions, arguing that the voting app should never have been discontinued. Some explained that they were struggling to locate the official voting option on TikTok, while others simply demanded that the old feature return. Their complaints suggest that the new system has created confusion among viewers who have followed the competition for multiple seasons.

The TikTok voting method has also raised questions about fairness. Instead of selecting contestants through the familiar app interface, eligible participants must leave a comment containing their chosen artist’s name or official voting keyword on a designated post. Some viewers questioned whether this approach could be vulnerable to manipulation through multiple accounts. However, those comments represent fan concerns rather than confirmed evidence that the voting results have been compromised.

Beyond the voting platforms themselves, the rules surrounding Cut Week have confused some viewers. Several fans questioned whether the public would save one additional contestant overall or one singer from each team. Others wanted clarification about whether alternative voting methods were available. The official format provides only one additional position through America’s vote, meaning the contestant receiving the strongest eligible support will complete the Top 13.

The timing of the voting window has become another source of complaints. For Cut Week, voting opened at 10:55 p.m. Eastern Time on November 2 and remained available until 3 a.m. Eastern Time on November 3. Some supporters questioned why the process took place so late, particularly after The Voice moved its regular Monday broadcast to 9 p.m. Eastern Time. The unusual timing added another challenge for viewers adjusting to the new schedule.

Under the announced rules, eligible viewers can participate by texting their chosen contestant’s name or official keyword to 22854 or by commenting on the designated post on The Voice’s official TikTok account. Voting is restricted to participants aged 18 or older who meet the applicable location requirements, and TikTok participants must use public accounts. Beginning with the Live Shows on November 9, voting will take place during the broadcast, with results announced during the same episode rather than on a separate elimination night.

Despite the criticism, Season 30 continues to introduce significant changes as it approaches its December 14 finale. The return of live performances, the new Cut Week format, and the revised voting system have transformed how contestants advance through the competition. While some viewers welcome the opportunity to participate through newer platforms, others remain frustrated by the disappearance of the familiar app and online voting experience. Whether producers will respond to those complaints remains uncertain, but fans have made it clear that they want a voting process they consider convenient, accessible, and fair.
