Blake Shelton Opens Up About Stepson Kingston and Zuma Rossdale’s Musical Paths: “They Were Born for the Stage”

Country star Blake Shelton is no stranger to the spotlight—but now, he’s watching it shine on two rising talents much closer to home. In a heartfelt interview with People magazine, Shelton opened up about Kingston and Zuma Rossdale, the teenage sons of Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, and their emerging journeys in music.

A Family Steeped in Music

With Gwen Stefani’s pop-punk legacy, Gavin Rossdale’s grunge-rock roots, and Shelton’s own chart-topping country career, Kingston (18) and Zuma (16) were born into music. “They have three professional musicians in their life and grew up watching performances, knowing how to be onstage,” Shelton said, reflecting on the rare creative upbringing the boys have had.

And that influence is showing.

Stage-Ready from the Start

While most teens would be nervous to perform in front of a crowd, Shelton shared that his stepsons are already at ease with the stage. “They are very comfortable and not rattled at all, as if they’ve been performing for 10 years,” he said. “I sure wasn’t that calm when I would get onstage.”

The proud stepdad has had a front-row seat to their early shows—especially at his Ole Red venues, where both boys have performed. Kingston made his debut in 2023, while Zuma has made several appearances, showcasing a clear affinity for country music and a growing connection with live audiences.

Different Sounds, Shared Passion

Though raised in the same household, the brothers are following their own sonic instincts. Zuma is leaning into country, thanks in part to time spent cruising with Shelton. “Zuma rides in the truck with me and hears the country station,” Shelton shared. “But I never try to force my music. He just picked it up.”

Kingston, meanwhile, is channeling his father’s rock spirit, reportedly drawn to bands like Deftones and Smashing Pumpkins. His emerging style reflects a natural evolution of the rock legacy he’s inherited.

More Than Music: The Heart of a Stepfather

The musical bond is strong, but Shelton’s role in the boys’ lives goes much deeper. In a recent Father’s Day tribute, Gwen Stefani honored Shelton’s unwavering love and guidance for Kingston, Zuma, and their younger brother Apollo. And Shelton’s words in the People interview make it clear—he’s not just cheering from the sidelines, he’s helping shape a nurturing, supportive space for the boys to explore who they are.

Looking Ahead

As Kingston and Zuma continue to grow, both as young men and as musicians, they do so with a family that champions creativity without pressure—and with a stepfather who knows exactly what it means to chase a dream.

“They’re already becoming their own artists,” Shelton said. “And I couldn’t be prouder.”

From country twang to rock anthems, the Rossdale-Stefani-Shelton household is shaping up to be one of music’s most unique and promising dynasties.
