It’s Official: Princess Charlotte Set to Inherit Princess Diana’s £400k Spencer Family Tiara — Passing Over Cousin Lilibet

The next generation of royal women may soon bring Princess Diana’s iconic Spencer Tiara back into the spotlight. Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother, has confirmed that Princess Charlotte is the likely heir to this dazzling family heirloom—bypassing Princess Lilibet, daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

When Princess Diana walked down the aisle in 1981, she surprised the world by choosing to wear her own family’s heirloom—the Spencer Tiara—instead of a royal piece. This breathtaking diamond tiara, valued at around £400,000, has been passed down through generations of the Spencer family and is now regarded as one of Britain’s most treasured aristocratic jewels.

Since Diana’s tragic passing in 1997, the tiara has rarely been seen publicly, kept safely under lock and key. Neither Princess Kate nor Meghan Markle have ever worn it, though both have honored Diana in their own ways. Now, attention turns to Princess Charlotte and Princess Lilibet, both possible future wearers of this stunning piece.

Jewelry expert Maxwell Stone of Steven Stone Jewellers recently told the Daily Express that it’s “certainly possible” that either young royal might one day don the tiara, but there are important factors at play. Since the tiara isn’t part of the Crown Jewels but a private family possession, it’s likely still owned by Charles Spencer himself.

According to Maxwell, Princess Charlotte stands out as the more probable wearer due to her central role in the core royal family and her strong connection to her grandmother’s legacy. The Spencer Tiara would be a meaningful and symbolic choice for significant occasions, especially her future wedding.

On the other hand, Princess Lilibet, while sharing royal lineage, has a more distant relationship with the institution, being raised largely outside traditional royal circles. This may make access to the tiara less straightforward for her.

The tiara’s last public appearance was in 2018, worn by Diana’s niece Celia McCorquodale on her wedding day, keeping the legacy alive in the family.

Dating back to the 18th century, the tiara was gifted to Diana’s grandmother, Countess Cynthia Spencer, in 1919, and features exquisite diamond-encrusted motifs of tulips, scrolls, and stars. Its design is a unique blend of various older jewelry pieces, adding to its charm and historical significance.

Maxwell estimates its value at around £400,000, but beyond the price tag, it holds deep sentimental value as a cherished symbol of one of the most beloved figures in British royal history.

As Princess Charlotte grows, the world watches eagerly, wondering when this treasured heirloom might once again grace the head of a royal bride, linking past and future in a dazzling display of tradition and legacy.
