With a voice marked by sincerity and a heart rooted in faith, American Idol runner-up John Foster is quickly carving out his place in country music. At just 18, Foster recently unveiled a stirring new version of the beloved hymn “Amazing Grace,” offering fans a raw, emotionally charged performance that reaffirms his reputation for deeply heartfelt artistry.

Captured in a one-take music video, Foster’s rendition of the classic hymn feels both timeless and personal. His vocals, clear and powerful, rise with reverence through the song’s iconic melody, while his soulful delivery brings new life to lyrics that have comforted generations. The addition of a Cajun French chorus adds a deeply personal touch, paying homage to his Louisiana roots and spiritual foundation.

“I thought it fitting that my first post-Idol music video be ‘Amazing Grace,’ because it’s His Grace that’s brought me this far,” Foster shared. “This is a raw, one-take recording, and every lyric, including the Cajun French chorus, is a thank you to God. Thank you Fable House for capturing this moment.”

That blend of humility, talent, and passion has helped make Foster a fan favorite since his earliest Idol performances. And his journey continues to unfold. Following a powerful on-stage moment with Grand Ole Opry member Craig Morgan, Foster announced that he’ll be fulfilling a lifelong dream on June 7—making his debut at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Tonight I had the pleasure of singing with Grand Ole Opry member Craig Morgan,” Foster wrote on Instagram. “I’m incredibly honored to announce that I will make my Opry debut on Saturday, June 7th!”

For Foster, the opportunity means everything. “As an amateur country music historian, there is no more significant place to my passion (country music) than the Grand Ole Opry,” he shared. “This has been my #1 dream ever since I started music, and now, because of your support, my dream will come true! I will never be able to express my gratitude! Glory be to God!”

Before stepping onto the Opry stage, Foster will join fellow American Idol Season 23 finalists—including winner Jamal Roberts and fan-favorite Breanna Nix—for a free, all-ages concert in Nashville, marking Foster’s first official performance in Music City. It’s a major milestone for the young artist, who began the Idol season as a college student from Addis, Louisiana, and emerged as one of the most beloved voices of the season.

Throughout his Idol journey, Foster shared stages with some of music’s biggest names, including Miranda Lambert, Jelly Roll, CeCe Winans, and Idol legends like Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan. His finale duet with Bryan on Randy Travis’ “Deeper Than the Holler” stood out as a defining moment, showcasing not just his vocal skill but his natural presence and poise.

Still riding the momentum of his Idol run and grateful for the experiences it brought, Foster recently reflected on the whirlwind season. “Man, what a true blessing to share this Idol stage with so many incredible heroes, both new faces and legends,” he wrote. “I’m beyond thankful, and I can’t wait to keep making music for y’all as long as the good Lord lets me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart — times a million.”

As he moves forward into the next chapter of his career, John Foster’s story continues to inspire — one rooted in family, faith, and the enduring power of music.
