BBC Announces Emotional Ozzy Osbourne Documentary — Just Days Away

The BBC has officially confirmed the air date for Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, a deeply moving and inspirational one-hour documentary chronicling the final chapter of the rock legend’s extraordinary life. The film will premiere on BBC One and iPlayer on August 18th at 9pm.

Filmed over the course of three years by Expectation, the documentary offers unprecedented and intimate access to the entire Osbourne family — including Sharon, Jack, and Kelly — capturing their private moments, humour, resilience, and the love that defined their lives together.

Originally envisioned in 2022 as a light-hearted series, Home to Roost, documenting Sharon and Ozzy’s dream of returning to the UK, the project took a different turn as Ozzy’s health began to decline. It evolved into Coming Home, an emotional chronicle of his final journey.

Viewers will see the Black Sabbath frontman fighting to regain his strength for one last performance — an unforgettable show at Villa Park — just weeks before his tragic passing. The film also shows the family navigating the difficult realities of his illness, while still finding moments of joy and connection.

Clare Sillery, BBC Head of Commissioning for Documentaries, said:

“We are honoured to have filmed with Ozzy and his family. This documentary offers an intimate glimpse into their journey back to the UK, filled with humour, reflection, and the enduring spirit that made Ozzy a global icon. We hope it brings comfort and joy to fans as they remember and celebrate his extraordinary life.”

The documentary promises love, laughter, tears, and rare behind-the-scenes moments from a family that has been in the public eye since The Osbournes first aired in 2002.

The announcement comes shortly after official documents confirmed Ozzy’s cause of death as an acute myocardial infarction and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. His occupation on the certificate was simply, yet powerfully, listed as: “songwriter, performer, and rock legend.”

On August 18th, fans will see not only the icon, but the man behind the music — a final, heartfelt farewell to the Prince of Darkness.
