Blake Shelton may be known for his chart-topping hits and red carpet appearances, but his latest headline moment took place far from the spotlight — deep in the woods of Eastern Oklahoma, where he lent a helping hand (and heart) to an important conservation effort.
As a Board Director for the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Foundation (OWCF), Shelton recently joined researchers from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) and Oklahoma State University’s Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources to assist in a long-running study of Oklahoma’s black bear population.
Hands-On Conservation
During the field excursion, Shelton observed as wildlife biologists carefully gathered vital information from a bear cub — including weight, chest girth, sex, and distinguishing features. The team then tagged the cub with a microchip-like tracker to allow for long-term monitoring as it matures in the wild.
The cub was quickly returned to its den to reunite with its mother, who is also fitted with a GPS tracking collar to aid researchers in understanding black bear movement and behavior.
The black bear project has been ongoing for over 20 years, with scientists and conservationists working together to study population health and ensure safe human-wildlife coexistence in the region.
A Country Star with Country Roots
Shelton took a brief pause for a heartwarming photo with the bear cub — a sweet reminder of his deep connection to his home state and the land that shaped him.
Though he often splits time between Oklahoma and Los Angeles with his fiancée Gwen Stefani, Shelton’s heart clearly remains in his home state. In fact, he’s been actively involved in various local conservation and outreach programs.
Last fall, Shelton hosted a fishing day for foster children on his property, partnering with Fostering Outdoor Oklahoma Families, a program that introduces foster families to the joy and healing power of nature.
Still Making Music
In addition to his conservation efforts, Shelton continues his musical journey. His latest single, “Minimum Wage,” was released alongside a music video filmed by his soon-to-be brother-in-law Todd Stefani, shot on location at Ole Red, Shelton’s venue in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.
Blending Passion with Purpose
Whether he’s mentoring on The Voice, releasing music, or helping protect native wildlife, Blake Shelton continues to use his platform for more than entertainment. His recent day with the ODWC highlights a lesser-seen but deeply genuine side of the country star — one rooted in service, stewardship, and Oklahoma pride.
