With just seven artists left, the competition is getting intense on Season 7 of American Idol. The Sunday, May 11, episode featured special tributes for Mother’s Day, along with Disney performances as the Top 7 traveled to Disneyland. The contestants were mentored by Hamilton creator and Disney songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda and performed in front of judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie. Viewers voted throughout the night, with two artists set to go home by the episode’s end.
Gabby Samone

Gabby Samone took on “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana, a song written by Miranda himself. The emotional ballad suited her powerhouse vocals, with Lionel Richie calling her a “show-stopper” and praising the way she built to the song’s climax. “The crescendo of all this shines a light on you so much,” he said. Carrie Underwood added, “Your voice was made for songs like that.”
Jamal Roberts

Jamal Roberts chose “Go the Distance” from Hercules for his Disney Night pick. He shared that the song resonated deeply with him due to its lyrics about perseverance and destiny. Carrie Underwood was impressed by his ability to mold each performance into something personal and authentic: “You always find a way to put yourself in it… You make it fit you.”
Breanna Nix

Breanna Nix performed “Reflection” from Mulan, a bold choice that matched her personal transformation. The Texas mom and Top 7 finalist related to the song’s message of self-acceptance. Luke Bryan was struck by her vocal control: “You never look like you don’t have total reigns on your voice.” Lionel Richie praised her emotional delivery and ability to bring depth to a classic Disney tune.
John Foster

John Foster brought the crowd to its feet with “Almost There” from The Princess and the Frog, a nod to his Louisiana roots. His signature blend of country soul and charisma had the judges glowing. Richie exclaimed, “Who do you think you are?” in the best possible way. Underwood told him, “No matter what you do, John Foster is John Foster… You brought it to you.”
With powerhouse performances across the board, each contestant brought something unique to Disney Night. As the competition narrows, the Top 7 are proving there’s no room for a misstep—and every moment on stage counts.
