Jesse Findling’s Adele Cover Brings Hollywood Week to Its Feet — and Sends Luke Bryan Running Onstage

Jesse Findling delivered the performance of his life during the final Hollywood Week episode of American Idol. The 19-year-old college student stunned judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood with a soaring rendition of Adele’s “Love in the Dark” — a performance that turned pressure into pure triumph.

Before stepping onto the Hollywood Week stage, Findling reflected on how far he had already come. His audition performance of Benson Boone’s “In the Stars” earned high praise from the judges and a golden ticket to Hollywood. “It is insane to be here after my audition and how well it went,” he shared. “I’ve always known I can sing, but to get that level of praise is an incredible feeling.”

For Jesse, the journey carries even deeper meaning. He has lived with a stutter his entire life — a challenge that once made self-expression difficult. “Singing has always felt freeing for me, because when I sing I don’t stutter,” he previously explained. “It’s a way for me to express myself without worrying about embarrassment or what people think. It was my outlet when I was little, and it still is now.”

Heading into Hollywood Week, he admitted feeling the weight of expectation. Choosing an Adele ballad is no small task, especially on one of the most competitive stages in television. Still, it was a song he had always dreamed of performing on American Idol, and he decided to take the risk.

The gamble paid off. From the very first note, the judges were visibly moved. By the final chorus, all three were on their feet in a standing ovation. Luke Bryan took it even further — running up to the stage, hugging Jesse, and blurting out four unforgettable words: “Get out of here!”

Though stunned for a moment, Jesse returned to hear Bryan’s explanation. “There are so many things I want to say — I was trying to kick you out because I’m so jealous of you,” Bryan admitted. “Your first note had Carrie drawing hearts. What a pro dynamic of singing. You are so deserving of this moment, and I’m so excited to see your future.”

After the rest of his group performed, Jesse received even more good news: he advanced to the next round, keeping his dream alive and moving one step closer to the Top 30.

Backstage, overwhelmed and emotional, he summed up the night simply: “This is the best night of my life.”

For a young man who once struggled to find his voice, Jesse Findling didn’t just sing during Hollywood Week — he soared.
