Setting the Record Straight: Foster Clears Up Online Rumors

With fame comes speculation, and Foster recently took to Facebook to address a few widespread rumors circulating online.

“I’m not 24 — I’m 18,” he clarified. “I was born and raised in Louisiana. I’ve never even been to Kentucky, but I hope to visit someday.”

He also addressed the widely shared claim that he had been signed by country legend Dwight Yoakam under Sugar Hill Records:

“I’m not related to Dwight Yoakam, nor am I currently signed under any record label,” Foster wrote. “There’s no connection, but I appreciate the love.”

As comparisons to Yoakam continue due to Foster’s classic country sound and swagger, the young singer is staying humble and focused on forging his own path.

A Song from the Heart: Tribute to Late Friend Maggie Dunn

One of the season’s most emotional moments came when Foster performed a moving tribute to his late friend Maggie Dunn, who tragically passed away in 2022.

The performance left judges stunned and fans in tears, showcasing the emotional depth behind Foster’s music and further cementing his place as a fan favorite.

Beyond Music: Foster’s Dedication to Medicine and Giving Back

Even with the spotlight of American Idol shining brightly on him, John Foster has stayed true to his roots and long-held dreams — including a career in medicine.

Currently a biology major at Louisiana State University, Foster revealed during his audition that he hopes to become an oncologist. His grandmother, Verbie Benoit, shared with The Advocate that even while competing on national television, Foster continued attending online classes during the show’s run.

“Whether I decide to pursue medicine or music full-time,” Foster wrote in a recent post, “I will always be involved in fighting for a cure.”

On May 2, Foster launched a Facebook fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, raffling off a signed photo with a goal of raising $500. The response? Over $3,500 raised in under 24 hours. The fundraiser ended May 9, far exceeding expectations — a reflection of the strong support and admiration he’s earned.

A Family-First Star With Big Dreams

John Foster’s Idol journey has always been deeply rooted in his faith, family, and community. With 31 family members traveling to Los Angeles to support him at one point, it’s clear that his rise to fame has been a shared journey of love and encouragement.

Whether he chooses a path in country music or medicine — or somehow both — John Foster is already a star in the eyes of many.
