As newly crowned American Idol winner Jamal Roberts continues to soak up fatherhood and fame, fans are eager to know more about the man behind the music — and, more specifically, the details of his personal life. The Mississippi native has been winning hearts not only with his soulful voice but also with his clear devotion to his three daughters: Harmoni, 6, Lyrik, 4, and newborn Gianna, who was born just a week before his big win on May 18.
On May 31, Roberts shared a touching Instagram post of himself at home with his daughters, writing, “Just me and my girls 😍😩😭 I’ll let you take the picture 😎 #girldadforlife.” The moment resonated deeply with fans, who flooded his comment section with love and questions, including one that summed up the curiosity many share: “When are you going to introduce the wonderful momma of these three beautiful girls God blessed you with?”
Though Roberts had kept his private life mostly under wraps during his American Idol journey, he recently decided to address the speculation. In a series of radio interviews, he made it clear: he is not married and not in a relationship.
During a conversation on Atlanta’s V-103 “Big Tigger Morning Show,” Roberts spoke openly about missing the birth of his youngest daughter due to his Idol schedule. “That just gave me that little push I needed,” he said. Though he kept Gianna’s impending arrival private during the competition, he revealed her birth shortly before the finale and met her for the first time during his top 3 hometown visit. “That’s all I was thinking about when I was up there. Like, ‘I just had another girl!’ I’m a girl dad now. She was the first [birth] I missed because I usually be in there, you know, wide open. But it served a purpose, and I’m doing this for my girls.”
The conversation turned lighthearted when host Jazzy McBee asked what “wifey” said about him missing the birth. Laughing and holding up his bare hands, Roberts replied, “Wifey, uh, didn’t give me any comments because…” making it clear there was no wife at all. When McBee tried to clarify if he was referring to the mother of his children, Roberts simply smiled and said, “She told me to focus and keep doing what I’m doing.”
On the nationally syndicated “Morning Hustle” show, he doubled down on his single status. When host Lore’l mentioned seeing a ring on his finger during the show and assumed he was married, Roberts explained it was a mix-up with wardrobe. “One night … during the performance, I accidentally wore one of the rings from wardrobe on my ring finger,” he said. “They let me know when I got off stage. I said, ‘They going to think I’m married!’”
Confirming that he is “very much single,” Roberts clarified that his three daughters do not share the same mother and that he has a healthy relationship with both women. “I have no problems in no areas of my life when it comes to my kids,” he said. “I’ve been a present father since they were … pregnant. I’ve been present.”
Roberts added that despite his demanding schedule, he’s always prioritized being there for his children. “They don’t question me about anything. I’m always there for my kids. Anytime they need something, I’m there, it does not matter.”
He expressed relief and joy that his two older daughters were able to visit him in Los Angeles during his American Idol run, thanks to his mother and other relatives. “When I can see them and I can lay eyes on them, I feel like they’re just in the perfect spot and I’m at ease,” he said. “But when they’re away, I just … I’m uneasy. I’m like, ‘Oh, God.’”
With his debut single “Heal” already reaching the Billboard Top 10 Digital Song chart, Roberts is now juggling newfound fame, upcoming performances, and life as a dedicated father. His May 31 hometown concert in Meridian marks the beginning of what promises to be a busy and exciting chapter. Though he’s hinted at major collaborations, including one with Jelly Roll, Roberts has said he’ll wait to reveal more until everything is “in writing.”
For now, Jamal Roberts is riding the wave of success with humility, honesty, and an open heart — and doing it all as a proud, present “girl dad for life.”
