“HE NEVER TOOK THE STAND. NOW TWELVE JURORS WILL DECIDE HIS FUTURE.”

After four days of testimony, emotional witness accounts, and intense courtroom moments, the murder trial of Karmelo Anthony has entered its final stage.

The defense officially rested its case Monday, bringing an end to testimony and setting the stage for closing arguments. But the biggest development of the day was not what happened in court — it was what didn’t happen.

Anthony never testified.

For weeks, many observers wondered whether jurors would hear directly from the teenager accused of fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf during a track meet confrontation in April 2025. In a case centered around self-defense, some legal analysts believed his testimony could play a crucial role in explaining what he believed and feared during the encounter.

Instead, the defense chose to rest without calling Anthony to the witness stand.

The decision followed hours of speculation after a lengthy delay at the courthouse led many to wonder whether a major development was about to occur. When proceedings finally resumed, the defense announced it had completed its case.

Over the course of the trial, prosecutors presented testimony from more than twenty witnesses, including students, coaches, police officers, investigators, and medical experts. Together, they attempted to build a timeline of the confrontation that ended with Austin suffering a fatal stab wound.

Several witnesses testified that Anthony had been asked multiple times to leave a team tent before tensions escalated. Prosecutors argued that the evidence showed Anthony unlawfully used deadly force during a confrontation that did not justify it.

The defense offered a different interpretation.

Defense attorneys argued that Anthony feared for his safety during the incident and reacted to what he believed was a threat. Their case focused heavily on self-defense and the circumstances surrounding the confrontation in the moments before the stabbing occurred.

One of the most emotional moments of the trial came from testimony describing the desperate attempts to save Austin’s life.

Witnesses recounted the chaos that followed the stabbing as coaches, students, and first responders rushed to help. Jurors reportedly became visibly emotional during portions of that testimony, particularly when witnesses described Austin’s final moments.

As testimony concluded, another question remained unanswered.

Why was Anthony carrying a knife at a track meet?

While evidence was presented regarding the knife itself, jurors never heard Anthony personally explain why he had it that day. That absence has become one of the many factors jurors will now have to weigh as they evaluate the evidence.

The case now moves into closing arguments.

Both sides will have one final opportunity to summarize their evidence and explain why they believe the jury should rule in their favor. Afterward, the jury will begin deliberations behind closed doors.

The jurors will be sequestered during the process, isolated from news coverage, social media, and outside influences as they consider one of the most closely watched criminal cases in Texas.

The stakes could hardly be higher.

Anthony faces a murder charge that carries the possibility of decades in prison if convicted.

For the Metcalf family, the trial represents another painful chapter in the loss of a son, brother, and friend.

For Anthony’s family, it represents uncertainty about what the future may hold.

And now, after days of testimony and months of anticipation, the responsibility for determining what happened—and what consequences should follow—rests entirely in the hands of twelve jurors. ⚖️💔
