Hunter Metcalf Delivers Blunt Courtroom Message After Karmelo Anthony Sentencing

Austin Metcalf’s twin brother, Hunter Metcalf, delivered one of the most emotional moments of the sentencing hearing after Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas.

The courtroom was already tense as Anthony, 19, learned his punishment. Reports from the hearing said he appeared emotional, kept his head lowered, and broke down as the sentence was read, while Austin’s family prepared to speak about the life they lost.

Hunter’s statement carried the pain of a brother who had not only lost a sibling, but the person he described as his best friend. Standing in court, he addressed Anthony directly and made it clear that Austin’s death had left a wound that no verdict or sentence could fully repair.

One of Hunter’s most powerful moments came when he told Anthony, “You took my best friend away.” Those six words cut through the courtroom because they showed the loss in the simplest and most painful way possible.

Hunter spoke about the future Austin was supposed to have and the moments their family will never get back. He described Austin as someone who should have grown older beside him, shared family milestones, and one day become part of the lives Hunter hoped to build.

As Anthony kept his head down, Hunter’s words reminded the courtroom that this case was not only about legal arguments or sentencing ranges. It was about a twin brother who will now have to move through life without the person who had been beside him since birth.

The sentencing followed Anthony’s conviction for murder after jurors rejected his self-defense claim. Prosecutors had argued that Anthony used deadly force during a confrontation that should never have ended with a knife being used.

Anthony’s defense had asked jurors to consider his fear in the moment and later pushed a “sudden passion” argument during sentencing. But the jury rejected that final attempt to reduce the punishment and sentenced him to 35 years in prison.

Austin’s family members also gave victim impact statements, describing the emptiness left behind in their home and the pain of knowing Austin’s future was taken away. Their words turned the hearing into one of the most emotional moments of the entire trial.

By the end of the hearing, Hunter’s blunt message became one of the lines people remembered most. While Anthony’s sentence closed the courtroom chapter of the case, Hunter’s words made clear that Austin’s family will live with the loss long after the trial is over.
