Jeff Metcalf, the father of slain Texas teenager Austin Metcalf, is speaking out again after Karmelo Anthony’s conviction and 35-year prison sentence. In a recent Newsmax appearance, Jeff addressed Anthony’s supporters, the protests outside the courthouse, and why he believes the appeal will not change the outcome.
Anthony was convicted in connection with the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. The case has remained at the center of national debate, with arguments continuing over self-defense, race, jury selection, sentencing, and the legal process.
During the interview, Jeff was asked why he thinks some of Anthony’s supporters continue to claim that justice was not served. His response was blunt and immediately drew attention online.
Jeff said people would have to ask Anthony’s supporters directly, but then offered his own opinion. He described them in harsh terms, saying he believes they lack a moral compass and are blinded by race.
The comment quickly became another flashpoint in a case that has already produced intense public reaction from both sides. Supporters of Austin’s family have praised Jeff for speaking honestly from grief, while critics say his words add more tension to an already divided conversation.

The interview also turned to Jeff’s earlier statements about forgiving Anthony. Although he has said he forgave the teen who killed his son, Jeff made clear that forgiveness does not mean forgetting what happened or supporting the appeal.
He explained that forgiveness was something he needed for himself. Jeff said carrying hate, rage, and anger would consume him from the inside, and that letting go of that weight was part of how he was trying to survive the loss of his son.
For Jeff, forgiveness appears to be about protecting his own heart from being destroyed by bitterness. But his words also showed that he still believes Anthony must face the consequences of the jury’s decision.
Jeff also reacted to footage of Anthony’s supporters protesting outside the courthouse after the trial. He acknowledged that people have a right to protest, but said he believes they should look more closely at the facts of the case.

He said Anthony’s side has the right to appeal, but he does not believe that appeal will go far. In Jeff’s view, the case was strong enough that a higher court is unlikely to overturn the conviction.
Jeff argued that many people misunderstand what an appeal actually does. He said an appeal is not a second trial and does not automatically mean new witnesses, new evidence, or a full reexamination of everything that happened.
Instead, he said appeals generally focus on whether procedural or legal errors occurred during the trial. That is why he believes Anthony’s appeal will face a difficult path.
Anthony’s legal team has indicated that it plans to challenge certain issues from the trial, including concerns raised during jury selection. But Jeff remains confident that the conviction and sentence will stand.
The case continues to draw strong emotions because both families are now living with permanent consequences. Austin’s family is grieving a son who never came home, while Anthony is beginning a long prison sentence as his appeal process moves forward.
For now, Jeff Metcalf’s message is clear. He believes the jury got it right, he believes the case was solid, and he does not expect Karmelo Anthony’s appeal to change the verdict that sent him to prison for 35 years.
