Brian Hickerson has been photographed publicly for the first time since the sudden de@th of Hayden Panettiere, appearing in South Carolina only days after the 36-year-old actress was found unresponsive at a Greenville residence.
Hickerson, 37, was spotted on August 19, three days after Panettiere’s de@th. His appearance attracted immediate attention because investigators had recently confirmed that both Brian and his brother, Zach Hickerson, were at the residence when emergency responders arrived.
The sighting comes as a newly released police report provides a clearer picture of what officers encountered inside the property.
According to the report, emergency crews were already performing CPR on Panettiere when police arrived. Despite attempts to revive her, she was pronounced de@d at approximately 2:31 p.m. on August 16. An autopsy subsequently found no signs of trauma, and authorities said their initial investigation showed no evidence of foul play.
The report also confirms that Brian and Zach were present.
One particularly notable detail concerns medication. According to the incident report, Brian showed an officer a bag containing medications that he said belonged to Panettiere. The publicly released version of the report redacted information identifying those medications.
That detail does not establish what caused Panettiere’s de@th.
Emergency communications from that afternoon reportedly included references to a possible overdose and cardiac arrest, but the coroner has not officially determined her cause of de@th. Toxicology and other testing remain pending.
Investigators have also been looking for additional evidence that could help establish a timeline of Panettiere’s final hours. The police report indicates officers sought surveillance footage showing movements around the property before and after the emergency.
Brian’s brother has since provided his own account of what happened.
Zach said he had planned to meet Brian and Hayden that day. After arriving at the residence, he says he discovered Hayden unconscious and alerted Brian. The brothers then attempted to help her while emergency responders were summoned.
Brian has now also addressed the investigation indirectly through his attorney.
In a statement released after his first public sighting, his attorney emphasized that authorities had reported no initial evidence of foul play and asked that investigators be allowed to complete their work without speculation. The statement also requested privacy for those mourning Panettiere.
The renewed attention surrounding Hickerson is partly connected to his complicated history with Panettiere.
Their relationship began in 2018 and was marked by domestic-violence cases. Hickerson ultimately pleaded no contest to two felony counts in 2021 and served time in jail. Panettiere later wrote about the relationship in her memoir.
Only three days before Panettiere’s de@th, Hickerson had appeared in court seeking to have those felony convictions reduced. Prosecutors opposed the request, and the judge denied his petition.
That history has inevitably fueled intense online speculation since Panettiere’s passing. But investigators have not accused Hickerson of causing her de@th, and the available official findings do not establish that another person was responsible.
The medical investigation remains especially important because Panettiere’s official cause and manner of de@th have yet to be finalized.
For now, Brian Hickerson’s first public appearance adds another development to a case already receiving enormous attention, while the newly released police information gives investigators a more detailed timeline of what happened at the residence.
But the central question remains unanswered: what caused Hayden Panettiere to become unresponsive that afternoon?
Until the remaining medical testing is completed, authorities have not provided a definitive answer—and despite the growing number of details emerging from her final hours, the investigation is still ongoing.
