Hayden Panettiere had something deeply personal to look forward to in the days ahead of what would have been her 37th birthday: time with her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya.
According to people close to the Nashville actress, Panettiere had been planning to travel to Germany during her birthday week to visit Kaya, whom she shares with former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko. She was reportedly talking excitedly about the upcoming reunion shortly before her sudden passing on August 16, 2026.
Panettiere would have turned 37 on August 21, only five days after her de@th.
Those close to her said the planned trip wasn’t simply another vacation. Spending time with Kaya was something Hayden had been eagerly anticipating, and she had apparently been telling people around her how excited she was to see her daughter.
That detail has made the timing of her passing especially difficult for those who knew her.
Her longtime hairstylist Erick Orellana recalled how strongly Hayden spoke about Kaya, describing her daughter as an enormously important part of her life. According to those who knew her personally, conversations about Kaya could become deeply emotional because of how much Hayden loved and missed her.
Kaya has primarily lived with her father, former heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko, for several years.
Panettiere had previously spoken publicly about how painful that arrangement could be for her. She also pushed back against the idea that distance meant she had stopped caring about or being involved emotionally in her daughter’s life.
Instead, people close to the actress say she continued speaking proudly and affectionately about Kaya.
That is why the planned birthday reunion now carries such emotional significance.
Hayden wasn’t reportedly preparing for an extravagant Hollywood celebration centered around parties or publicity. One of the things she most wanted was simply the opportunity to spend part of her birthday week with her daughter.

Those plans would never happen.
Panettiere passed away unexpectedly in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16. Authorities have continued investigating the circumstances, and the official cause and manner of her de@th have not yet been finalized.
Her birthday arrived five days later.
On August 21, Klitschko publicly remembered Hayden and encouraged people to honor her memory through kindness. His message also made clear that Hayden would remain an important part of Kaya’s story despite her passing.
The relationship between Hayden and her daughter had long attracted public attention, but people who knew the actress have emphasized that the reality was more complicated than outsiders sometimes assumed.
One person close to Hayden recalled that she could become emotional simply discussing how much she loved Kaya and how much she wanted to be part of her life.
That makes the newly revealed birthday plans particularly poignant.
Only days before she was supposed to turn 37, Hayden wasn’t speaking as though her story was finished. She was making plans, reconnecting with friends and looking ahead to seeing the person those closest to her say mattered enormously to her.
