The Grand Ole Opry is honoring Dolly Parton with a special tribute show celebrating her extraordinary life, music and lasting legacy following her death at 80.
The tribute is taking place Saturday, August 29, at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, bringing together several artists to remember one of country music’s most influential figures. The show is dedicated entirely to Parton and her contributions to country music.
The lineup includes Carly Pearce, Channing Wilson, Belle Frantz, Kathy Mattea, Molly Tuttle, Dan Tyminski, T. Graham Brown, Jada Star and the Opry Square Dancers.
The evening carries special significance because Parton’s relationship with the Opry began when she was only 13 years old. She first appeared on the legendary stage in 1959 and eventually became an official Opry member in 1969.
Over the decades, Parton performed at the Opry more than 100 times and developed lasting relationships with generations of country artists. The institution also regularly celebrated her music through special “Opry Goes Dolly” shows.
Fans who cannot make it to Nashville do not have to miss the tribute. The Opry is providing a livestream through its Facebook and YouTube channels, as well as through digital streaming partners including Circle Country and RFD-TV.
The special show begins at 7 p.m. Central Time, or 8 p.m. Eastern Time. SiriusXM is also carrying the tribute at 9 p.m. Eastern on its Dolly Parton Tribute Channel and Willie’s Roadhouse.
There is also a charitable element to the evening. A portion of ticket sales from the Opry show is being donated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the literacy program that has provided hundreds of millions of free books to children.
