The final night of America’s Got Talent Season 21’s quarterfinals delivered one of the most dramatic results of the season, with seven acts seeing their journey come to an end while three earned spots in the semifinals. The night also featured a major Golden Buzzer that sent one spectacular act straight to the finale.
The three acts moving forward through America’s vote were comedian-singer Cesar Dias, magic duo Young & Strange, and singer Travis Garland. Their performances earned enough support to keep their Season 21 dreams alive as the competition heads into the semifinals.
But the results meant seven other performers were eliminated. The acts leaving the competition were Cameron Logsdon, Tyrone & Margo, Akira, Jesse Joe, Rubén Roldán, Bird & Byron, and Lara D.
Some of those exits were particularly difficult because several of the eliminated acts had made strong impressions earlier in the season. Lara D, for example, had previously received Sofia Vergara’s Golden Buzzer, making her elimination especially unexpected after she returned for the quarterfinals.
Bird & Byron and Lara D had even made it into the evening’s initial Top 5 before ultimately missing out on the three semifinal places. Their elimination showed just how quickly the results could change once the final votes were counted.
Meanwhile, Sofia Vergara delivered the biggest moment of the night when she used her Golden Buzzer on Unitree, the human-and-robot dance act. The decision meant Unitree bypassed the semifinals completely and advanced directly to the Season 21 finale.
Unitree’s performance left the judges stunned. Guest judge Heidi Klum called the act “mind-blowing,” while Howie Mandel praised it as one of the most amazing performances he had seen. Even Vergara admitted the robots were a little frightening before deciding that the act deserved her Golden Buzzer.
The unusual format made the night even more intense. Because the first NFL game of the season was scheduled for Wednesday night, AGT combined the performances and results into a special three-hour Tuesday broadcast, allowing viewers to see the eliminations almost immediately after voting.
Simon Cowell was also absent from the judges’ panel as he continues recovering from back surgery, with Heidi Klum stepping in as guest judge for the final quarterfinal night. Klum’s return added another memorable element to an already eventful episode.
Now the Season 21 competition moves into the semifinals, with Cesar Dias, Young & Strange and Travis Garland among the acts still fighting for a place in the finale, while Unitree has already secured its spot. The semifinals begin September 15, with the next round of results following September 16.
