“The Voice” is making a major change to how viewers can watch the competition during its milestone 30th season. For the first time, the show’s live rounds will be simulcast on Peacock as well as NBC, allowing streaming viewers to experience the performances as they happen.
Season 30 premieres Monday, September 21, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The season begins with a special three-night premiere event, with additional episodes airing Tuesday, September 22, and Wednesday, September 23.
The new Peacock arrangement will not apply to every episode. The early prerecorded stages of the competition will continue to become available on Peacock the following day after airing on NBC.
The major change begins once the competition reaches the Live Shows. Those episodes will be shown simultaneously on NBC and Peacock, giving viewers another way to follow the performances in real time.
The simulcast is especially significant because it will be available across U.S. time zones. That will allow more viewers to experience the live competition at the same time instead of waiting for a delayed broadcast or next-day streaming.
Season 30 is also bringing back a much larger live portion of the competition. Six weeks of live performances are planned after Season 29 moved away from the traditional Live Shows.
Those six weeks will also restore a bigger role for the audience. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite Artists while the competition is happening, bringing the show closer to the immediate viewer-participation format that longtime fans remember.
The voting system itself is changing as well. Viewers will be able to vote through SMS text messaging and TikTok, with results revealed during the same night rather than relying on the longer overnight voting process used during some previous seasons.
Before the Live Shows begin, Season 30 will introduce another major competition change called Cut Week. Each Coach will send two Artists directly into the live portion while the remaining singers compete for additional opportunities to advance.
America will also have a role in completing the lineup, eventually helping establish the Top 13 that moves into the Live Shows. That means viewer participation will become important even before the final weeks of the competition begin.
Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine return as Coaches for the milestone season, while Queen Latifah and country singer Riley Green make their coaching debuts. Carson Daly also returns as host as the show begins another major chapter.
Season 30 will additionally feature themed live weeks, including Dolly Parton Tribute Week, Y2K and TikTok. With six weeks of live performances, same-night voting and Peacock joining NBC for the live simulcasts, “The Voice” is making one of its biggest moves yet toward turning the competition back into a true real-time television event.
