Riley Green didn’t have to fight another Coach to add 25-year-old Caroline Alexis to his growing Season 30 team. The Alabama singer caught Green’s attention with a country performance that ultimately left him as the only Coach to turn his chair.
Caroline stepped onto “The Voice” stage and performed Rascal Flatts’ “Take Me There.” The song proved to be a natural fit for her country sound, and several Coaches appeared interested as they listened.
Adam Levine came particularly close to pressing his button, but ultimately decided not to turn. Green continued listening before finally hitting his button and spinning around for Caroline.
When the performance ended, it became official: Riley was the only Coach who had turned. There would be no recruiting battle and no difficult decision for Caroline—she automatically became a member of Team Riley.
Things became even more interesting when Caroline introduced herself. The 25-year-old revealed that she was from Alabama, giving her an immediate hometown connection with Green, who is also from the state.
That revelation prompted a hilarious reaction from Kelly Clarkson. She explained that after Riley turned, she had decided against getting involved in another country battle—and learning Caroline was from Alabama made her even happier about that decision.
“I’m so glad I saved myself the embarrassment,” Clarkson joked. After already watching country singers gravitate toward Green during the opening Blind Auditions, she apparently knew this particular recruiting battle would have been difficult.
Green, meanwhile, was clearly happy with what he had heard. He praised Caroline’s tone, song choice and the way she performed the Rascal Flatts hit, making it clear why he had decided to turn.
But Caroline had another surprise for the Coaches. Music isn’t the only major career she has been pursuing. She revealed that she recently graduated from law school and had been spending her downtime studying for the bar exam.
Green immediately found an opportunity for a joke. After hearing Caroline talk about studying for the bar, he quipped that they were similar because he also goes “to the bar” in his downtime. The lighthearted exchange added another memorable moment to their first meeting.
Riley then officially welcomed Caroline to his team by presenting her with customized Team Riley Carhartt overalls, one of the gifts he has been using while building his first-ever team as a Coach.
Green later made it clear that turning for Caroline had been an easy decision, saying she was someone who “needed to be on my team.” She joins a country-heavy Team Riley that already includes 19-year-old Joe Henley and sister duo Ferryn and Brinkley Wright.
For Caroline, one chair turn was all she needed. She walked onto “The Voice” as a law-school graduate preparing for the bar exam and walked away as the newest member of Team Riley. And judging by Clarkson’s reaction, Riley may be becoming an increasingly difficult Coach to beat whenever an Alabama country singer steps onto that stage
