Kelly Clarkson Reveals Why Dating Isn’t a Priority After Brandon Blackstock’s Death

Kelly Clarkson has shared a deeply personal update about her life away from the spotlight, revealing why starting a new relationship is nowhere near the top of her priorities right now.

The 44-year-old singer opened up about dating during a recent appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, where she confirmed that she is currently single — and, perhaps more importantly, genuinely happy that way.

For Clarkson, much of that decision comes down to her two children, daughter River Rose, 12, and son Remington, 10, whom she shared with her late ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

Blackstock died in August 2025 at age 48 following a private battle with cancer, creating another enormous change for a family that had already gone through Clarkson and Blackstock’s difficult divorce.

When asked why she hasn’t started dating again, Clarkson admitted that bringing somebody new into her life could be difficult for her children right now.

“My kids right now, I think there’s a lot behind that,” Clarkson explained, adding that a new relationship could “rock their boat a little bit.”

That concern appears to be at the heart of her decision.

Rather than introducing another major change, Clarkson wants River and Remington to have stability while they continue adjusting to everything their family has experienced.

But her children aren’t the only reason she is staying single.

Clarkson also made it clear that she genuinely enjoys the life she has now.

After years of balancing an intense television schedule, music and parenting, the Grammy winner said she finally has more room to simply be present with her children and enjoy ordinary moments at home.

That includes cooking together, playing games and being available for parts of their daily lives that her demanding work schedule once made much harder to experience.

“I love my life right now,” Clarkson said while discussing her decision, making it clear that she does not view being single as something that needs to be fixed.

The shift also helps explain another major decision Clarkson recently made.

The Kelly Clarkson Show officially ended in August 2026 after seven seasons, and Clarkson has acknowledged that her children played an important role in her choice to walk away from the demanding daytime schedule.

The move has given her something that had become increasingly valuable: time.

Clarkson explained that she isn’t eager to sacrifice that newfound time with River and Remington simply to pursue a romantic relationship.

That doesn’t necessarily mean she has permanently closed the door on finding love again.

Instead, Clarkson appears comfortable allowing this chapter of her life to unfold without forcing anything, particularly while her children remain her biggest priority.

After years filled with enormous professional success, divorce, family changes and the loss of her children’s father, Clarkson now seems focused on something much simpler — giving her family stability and enjoying the quieter life she has finally been able to create.

And for now, she appears perfectly comfortable doing that without adding dating to the equation.
