REAL-LIFE CHEMISTRY CHANGED EVERYTHING — Riley Green Explains His Song Choice for Caroline Alexis and Everett Bounds After ‘The Voice’ Battle Divides Fans

Riley Green gave Caroline Alexis and Everett Bounds one of the most unusual Battle assignments of The Voice Season 30 — and their growing connection away from the stage made the performance even more interesting.

The two Team Riley singers faced each other during the October 12 Battle episode with Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn’s country classic “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.”

It was already a challenging song.

But there was something Riley initially didn’t know when he paired them together:

Caroline and Everett had started dating after meeting backstage on the show.

Everett revealed that Caroline immediately caught his attention when they met around the Blind Auditions.

He later surprised her with flowers and a handwritten note asking her to dinner.

Caroline accepted, and the two went on a couple of dates before arriving at rehearsals for their Battle.

That suddenly made Riley’s song choice almost perfect.

“Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” is built around playful back-and-forth chemistry between its two singers, rather than simply giving each vocalist a chance to deliver huge individual notes.

And that was exactly what Riley wanted from Caroline and Everett.

During rehearsals with Battle advisor Carly Pearce, Riley explained that the decision would likely come down to which contestant could fully commit to the song’s character and make the story believable.

He even encouraged them to flirt with each other onstage.

For Everett, that wasn’t exactly a difficult assignment.

He joked that singing directly to Caroline would come naturally.

Carly also noticed strengths on both sides during rehearsal, praising Caroline’s rich country drawl while Riley highlighted Everett’s natural ability to perform and entertain.

When they finally reached the Battle stage, the chemistry became part of the performance.

The pair traded lines, interacted constantly and leaned into the playful nature of the old-school country duet.

Kelly Clarkson immediately loved the throwback feel of the performance.

Adam Levine also enjoyed it and ultimately leaned toward Everett, believing he had shown noticeable improvement from his Blind Audition.

Riley was equally impressed.

He told Caroline and Everett they had transformed the ballroom into a “honky-tonk,” saying the performance felt especially familiar to him as a country artist.

But Riley also explained why this particular Battle was difficult to judge.

The song wasn’t primarily about deciding who could sing the biggest note.

It depended heavily on personality, timing, performance and character.

Caroline brought the attitude and sass Riley wanted.

Everett brought the playful, traditional-country energy.

Only one could advance.

Riley ultimately chose Everett Bounds.

Explaining the decision afterward, Riley said Everett seemed especially natural performing an upbeat traditional-country song and described that quality as something he wanted to keep on his team.

Riley also pointed out that Everett had originally been only a one-chair turn during the Blind Auditions, but believed the Battle had shown viewers he was capable of considerably more.

Adam Levine apparently agreed.

After Riley announced his decision, Adam walked over and jokingly confessed that he had “fell in love with Everett,” another sign of how much the performance had changed his impression of the singer.

But viewers weren’t completely united behind Riley’s decision.

Some fans questioned whether the fast-paced song allowed either singer enough room to showcase their individual voices.

Others believed Caroline had delivered the stronger performance and deserved to advance.

Everett also had plenty of supporters, particularly viewers who felt his voice and personality fit an old-school Conway Twitty-style country song especially well.

That debate makes Riley’s explanation important.

He wasn’t simply looking for the singer with the biggest vocal moment.

He had deliberately chosen a song requiring the contestants to sell a story.

And because Caroline and Everett already had genuine chemistry away from the competition, the Battle became less about pretending to connect and more about channeling something that was already there.

Unfortunately, the result also created an awkward reality.

Caroline was eliminated while Everett remained on Team Riley.

Before the Battle, Caroline acknowledged how unusual their situation was and said she hoped they would continue getting to know each other afterward regardless of what happened on the show.

As of now, their current romantic status hasn’t been publicly confirmed.

They still follow each other online and jointly promoted their Battle performance, suggesting they remain on good terms.

So Riley Green may have unknowingly created the most fitting Battle pairing possible.

He chose an iconic country duet about chemistry.

Then discovered the two singers performing it already had some of their own.

And even though Caroline’s Voice journey ended that night, their story together may not have ended with Riley’s decision.
