Amber Glenn Refuses Possible White House Visit After Olympic Gold

Tension has erupted around Amber Glenn after the Olympic champion revealed she would refuse a potential invitation to visit the White House following Team USA’s gold medal success at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Glenn, a key member of the U.S. figure skating team that captured gold in the team event, made the comment during an interview at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. When asked about Olympic champions traditionally visiting the White House after major victories, she gave a direct and unexpected answer.

“I’m electing not to either,” Glenn said when discussing athletes who choose not to attend such celebrations. “It is our right to be able to choose what we do and don’t endorse.”

Her statement quickly spread across social media, sparking debate among sports fans and political observers alike. White House visits for championship teams and Olympic medalists have long been a tradition in the United States, but athletes occasionally decline invitations for personal or political reasons.

Glenn’s stance comes amid an already outspoken period in her career. The 26-year-old skater, who helped Team USA secure Olympic gold, has previously used her platform to speak about issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community and has said athletes should not feel pressured to stay silent about matters that impact their lives.

Because of those views, Glenn has faced both support and criticism online. Earlier this year, she revealed that she received threatening messages after publicly expressing her opinions about LGBTQ+ rights during the Olympic season.

The White House has not issued a response regarding Glenn’s remarks, and it is unclear whether a formal invitation to the figure skating team has been sent yet. Traditionally, such visits occur months after major championships as part of national celebrations.

Meanwhile, the reaction among fans has been sharply divided. Some supporters praised Glenn for standing by her beliefs and exercising her right to make personal decisions about political events.

Others argued that Olympic celebrations at the White House should remain separate from politics and represent national unity after international competition.

Regardless of the debate, Glenn’s impact on the ice remains undeniable. The Texas-born skater has built one of the most successful recent careers in U.S. figure skating, including multiple national titles and helping secure Olympic team gold.

Her refusal highlights the growing intersection between sports, personal identity, and public platforms — an issue that continues to shape conversations around modern Olympic athletes.

For now, Glenn appears unfazed by the controversy. Her message was simple: every athlete should have the freedom to decide which events and endorsements they feel comfortable supporting.
