American Idol Runner-Up John Foster Makes Grand Ole Opry Debut with Craig Morgan and Country Stars

Just days after capturing hearts across America as the runner-up of American Idol Season 23, rising country star John Foster is preparing to step onto one of the most iconic stages in music history: the Grand Ole Opry.

On June 7, 2025, the 18-year-old Louisiana native will make his official Opry debut, sharing the bill with legendary country artists Craig Morgan, Mark Wills, and members of the award-winning group Old Crow Medicine Show.

For Foster, this isn’t just a performance — it’s the culmination of a dream years in the making.

“The first time I went to the Opry, I fought back tears because I was so overwhelmed with joy,” Foster shared with fans. “As an amateur country music historian, there is no place more important to my passion than the Grand Ole Opry. This has been my number one dream since I started music, and now, because of your support, my dream will come true. Glory be to God!”

A Rising Star with a Traditional Soul

Known for his smooth baritone, classic cowboy image, and deep respect for country roots, Foster quickly won over Idol viewers with his renditions of George Strait, Alan Jackson, and Don Williams. But it’s his humility and genuine love for traditional country that continue to set him apart.

Though he placed second to gospel powerhouse Jamal Roberts, Foster has wasted no time transitioning into a promising solo career. His debut single, “Tell That Angel I Love Her” — a tribute to a late friend — has already gone viral, with fans praising its emotional honesty and timeless sound.

From Idol Stage to Country Stages Nationwide

Before his Opry debut, Foster will appear at the Cajun Country Jam in Denham Springs, Louisiana, over Memorial Day Weekend. It’s just the beginning of a summer packed with performances and behind-the-scenes planning.

“My gratitude will never be fully expressed,” Foster said on Instagram. “But I hope to show it by working hard to bring you new country music and more show dates soon. God has a reason for me being runner-up. This is just the first step.”

Behind the scenes, Foster is also reportedly finalizing a management deal and eyeing future album projects and a national tour.

The Opry Welcomes a New Generation

John Foster isn’t the only Idol alum headed to the Opry. Fellow finalist Breanna Nix, who placed third, is set to take the stage on June 5 — marking a significant milestone for both young artists.

Together, Foster and Nix represent a new generation of country musicians rooted in tradition but ready to write the next chapter — with the Grand Ole Opry as their launching pad.
