America’s Got Talent Season 21 has not even premiered yet, but the competition is already generating major buzz online after NBC revealed a surprising format change that could completely reshape the way the show works this year.
According to new details released ahead of the premiere, AGT will reportedly introduce a brand-new round called “Judges Callbacks” — a twist designed to give certain contestants a second opportunity after the audition stage ends.
And fans are already heavily divided over it.
Supporters across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and X immediately began reacting after learning the new round will reportedly happen between auditions and the live shows, allowing select acts to return and compete again for remaining spots in the competition.
Many viewers instantly compared the format to the show’s former “Judge Cuts” era, which longtime AGT fans still consider one of the franchise’s most intense and emotional rounds.
But according to NBC, the new version appears slightly different.
Instead of the large multi-episode Judge Cuts format from earlier seasons, the new “Judges Callbacks” round reportedly involves a smaller group of chosen contestants invited back to perform again directly in front of the judging panel.
Fans now believe the twist could dramatically increase the emotional stakes of the competition.

For years, many viewers criticized AGT because talented acts sometimes disappeared too quickly after auditions despite strong performances. Supporters say the new callback system may finally create opportunities for overlooked contestants to redeem themselves before the live voting rounds begin.
Others, however, worry the added round could create even more controversy surrounding favoritism, producer influence, and second-chance decisions behind the scenes.
The emotional debate online intensified even further after NBC also confirmed Season 21 will feature a total of 10 Golden Buzzers this year.
That means judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Sofia Vergara will each reportedly receive two Golden Buzzers, while host Terry Crews also receives two of his own.
Fans instantly realized that combination could completely change the emotional pacing of the season.
Many supporters believe the larger number of Golden Buzzers plus the new callback round could make Season 21 feel more unpredictable and emotionally chaotic than recent seasons.
Others admitted they are already emotionally preparing for brutal eliminations once contestants who narrowly miss direct advancement are suddenly forced into another high-pressure performance battle during callbacks.
Social media discussions are especially intense among longtime AGT viewers nostalgic for the earlier Judge Cuts years.
Fans continue debating whether the new “Judges Callbacks” twist is genuinely improving the format — or simply a softer modern version of the older system many viewers still miss.
Some supporters argue the callback structure feels smarter because it gives contestants more screen time and additional opportunities to emotionally connect with audiences before live voting begins.
Others worry the shorter format could remove some of the dramatic tension and emotional brutality that originally made Judge Cuts so memorable.
At the same time, excitement for the season itself continues growing rapidly online.
Season 21 officially premieres June 2 on NBC, with two-hour audition episodes airing weekly before the live shows begin in August. Once live rounds start, performance episodes will air Tuesdays while elimination results will follow Wednesdays. Fans will also be able to stream episodes afterward on Peacock.
Now, according to viewers tonight, one thing already feels clear before the first audition even airs:
America’s Got Talent Season 21 may be preparing to become one of the most emotionally unpredictable seasons the show has ever attempted.
