BigCountry made sure viewers remembered his name when he stepped onto The Voice Season 30 stage and delivered a powerful performance of “I Put a Spell on You.”
The 37-year-old singer from Tacoma, Washington, immediately stood out because of his deep, gritty voice and commanding presence. Despite his stage name, BigCountry showed that his musical style stretches far beyond traditional country.
BigCountry is also an Army veteran, and music has remained an important part of his life. His Blind Audition gave him an opportunity to introduce a much larger audience to the soulful sound he has developed over the years.
Adam Levine recognized something special almost immediately and turned his chair early in the performance. Queen Latifah soon followed as BigCountry continued showing off the rough-edged power in his voice.
Riley Green eventually hit his button as well, turning the audition into an impressive three-chair turn. Suddenly, BigCountry had three superstar Coaches competing to convince him to join their teams.
Kelly Clarkson was the only Coach who didn’t turn, but she quickly admitted that she regretted the decision. She explained that she had been waiting to hear something extra before pressing her button and realized afterward that she may have waited too long.
Adam made a strong pitch, telling BigCountry that he recognized qualities in him that could take him far in the competition. Riley approached things differently, pointing out that country music is ultimately about storytelling and saying he could hear country roots underneath BigCountry’s soulful performance.
Riley even pulled out some unusual tricks while trying to recruit him. He brought out a duck call and leaned into their shared outdoorsman interests, creating one of the funniest Coach pitches surrounding the audition.
Queen Latifah, however, focused on BigCountry’s individuality. She praised the presence he brought to the stage and made it clear that she believed there was something distinctive about him that couldn’t simply be taught.
The audition also became a special family moment. BigCountry introduced his mother, his wife and two friends from his Army days, allowing the Coaches to learn more about the man behind the huge voice.
When it was finally time to choose, BigCountry surprised Riley and Adam by selecting Queen Latifah, officially becoming a member of Team Queen for Season 30.
But the conversation didn’t stop when the chairs turned around.
