LIVINGSTON, LA — Former American Idol winner and Louisiana native Laine Hardy is offering his full support to fellow Bayou State artist John Foster, whose emotional and authentic performances have carried him into the Top 3 of American Idol Season 23.
Hardy, who won the competition in 2019, revealed that he and Foster connected even before the 18-year-old from Addis set foot on the Idol stage. When asked for advice, Hardy’s response was simple but powerful: “Be honest and true to yourself on the inside — and whatever came out your mouth.”
That authenticity has become Foster’s trademark throughout the competition. From heartfelt covers to his original song “Tell That Angel I Love Her” — dedicated to his late best friend Maggie Dunn — Foster has struck a chord with viewers across the nation.
“He’s a Louisiana boy. I got to support him,” Hardy said. “And what I would say is: winners never quit, and quitters never win.”
Idol Memories and Moving Forward
Reflecting on his own Idol experience, Hardy recalled the whirlwind of emotions leading into the finale: “The main one for me was a feeling of happiness and joy. The atmosphere of, ‘If I don’t win, that’s okay — this is amazing.’”
He also spoke about the deep connections formed off-camera: “By that time, we’d gotten to know everyone working on the show. It was a goodbye, but also a hello — to starting our own careers in music.”
Hardy believes Foster’s journey is just beginning: “This show gives you a stage — but what you do next is where the real work begins. And John has what it takes to make it last.”
A New Chapter for Hardy
Six years after his own Idol win, Hardy’s life has seen major growth both personally and professionally.
“I’m a father now. I have a little boy, and I’m getting married in June,” he shared. He’s also gearing up for a return to the studio in Nashville to record two new songs, promising fans that more music is on the way. “It’s a lot going on, but I’m excited. I’ll keep making music. I love it — and I’m not stopping.”
As American Idol Season 23 prepares to crown a new winner, Hardy’s message to Foster — and to fans — is clear: Louisiana talent is strong, and its future is bright.
