Brad Paisley returned to the stage with an emotional tribute to Dolly Parton just days after the country music legend’s death at 80, choosing a song that suddenly carried a meaning neither artist could have anticipated when they first recorded it.
At his August 27 concert in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Paisley performed “When I Get Where I’m Going,” his 2005 hit featuring Parton. The song, which had originally celebrated hope and the idea of reaching a better place, became especially poignant in the wake of her passing.
Paisley performed the song alone with his guitar while images of Parton appeared on the screens behind him. The tribute grew increasingly emotional as photographs of the two longtime musical collaborators appeared throughout the performance.
