Hip-Hop World Mourns Tay Keith After Grammy-Nominated Producer Dies at 29

The hip-hop world is mourning the sudden death of Grammy-nominated producer Tay Keith, whose real name was Brytavious Lakeith Chambers. He was 29 years old.

Metro Nashville Police confirmed that Chambers was found dead inside his Nashville apartment on Thursday, June 18, after officers carried out a welfare check. Authorities said no foul play is suspected, and his death remains unclassified pending autopsy results.

The news spread quickly across the music industry, where Tay Keith had become one of the most recognizable producers of his generation. His hard-hitting sound helped shape major records from Drake, Travis Scott, BlocBoy JB, Eminem, Beyoncé, and several other artists.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Tay Keith began making beats when he was still a teenager. What started as a young producer experimenting with sound eventually grew into one of the most successful production careers in modern hip-hop.

His early rise was closely tied to Memphis rapper BlocBoy JB. Their collaboration “Look Alive,” featuring Drake, became one of the records that pushed Tay Keith into mainstream attention and introduced his producer tag to millions of listeners.

By 2018, Tay Keith was everywhere. He helped produce Drake’s “Nonstop,” Eminem’s “Not Alike,” and Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” three records that showed how quickly his sound had moved from Memphis circles into the center of the industry.

“Sicko Mode” became one of the biggest songs of that era and earned Tay Keith a Grammy nomination. The track helped cement him as more than a viral producer — it proved he could help build records that dominated charts, clubs, radio, and culture at the same time.

His work did not stop with one wave of success. Over the years, Tay Keith continued producing for major names across hip-hop, pop, and R&B, including Beyoncé, Cardi B, Future, Lil Nas X, Megan Thee Stallion, Offset, Key Glock, and others.

Entertainment Weekly reported that he also received recognition from the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards and was named Songwriter of the Year in 2025. His achievements made him one of the rare producers whose name carried weight far beyond the credits.

Tay Keith also balanced his music career with education. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2018, the same year his career reached a new level nationally.

That part of his story made his rise even more meaningful to fans. He was not only building songs for some of the biggest artists in the world, but also showing discipline, focus, and long-term ambition beyond music.

In recent years, Tay Keith continued expanding his work through Drumatized Music Group, which he co-founded with manager Cambrian Strong. He was also recognized on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Music list in 2024, another sign of how much influence he had built before turning 30.

After news of his death became public, tributes began appearing from friends, collaborators, and fans who remembered both his talent and his impact on the sound of modern rap. BlocBoy JB, DJ Scheme, and others were among those who publicly mourned the loss.

For many listeners, Tay Keith’s production was the soundtrack to a major era in hip-hop. His beats were sharp, urgent, and instantly recognizable, helping create moments that still live in playlists, concerts, and viral clips.

His death at 29 has left the music world stunned, especially because officials have not yet released a cause of death. For now, fans are left with the records, the influence, and the memory of a Memphis producer who turned a teenage passion into a sound heard around the world.
