American Idol’ Shakes Up the Top 5 as John Foster, Breanna Nix & Jamal Roberts Advance to the Grand Finale
It was a night full of soaring vocals and even higher stakes on May 12, as American Idol narrowed down its talented Season 23 contestants from five to three. With a jaw-dropping 19 million votes cast during the two-hour live show, host Ryan Seacrest delivered the news that fans had been anxiously awaiting: John Foster, Breanna Nix, and Jamal Roberts are headed to the finale.
That also meant the end of the Idol road for Slater Nalley and Thunderstorm Artis, who both exited the competition with grace, gratitude, and heartfelt messages to their fans.

Thunderstorm Artis Opens Up: “Yeah, I Really Wanted Top 3… But God’s Got Me”
Following the live broadcast, Thunderstorm Artis, 29, posted a candid and emotional video just moments after learning his journey had come to an end.
“Well, that was a great run,” he began, his voice tinged with both pride and peace. “I had so much fun. I’m filled with gratitude to have stood on a stage in front of millions and shared songs that mean so much to me.”
Admitting his hopes for a different outcome, Artis said, “Yeah, I really wanted to make Top 3. But it’s totally fine. Just making it to the Top 5 is a win in itself.”
Still, Artis kept his eyes on what’s next. “I’m excited to put music out, excited for what’s ahead. I know God has a plan. This isn’t the end — it’s the beginning of something else.”
He ended his video with a message of support for his fellow contestants: “John, Brianna, Jamal — I’m cheering for you. Y’all are insanely talented, and I’ll definitely be voting for one of you.”
Before signing off, he added, “I’ve got tomorrow off… finally getting some much-needed rest. But I know God’s got me. Love you all. Thanks for the love.
Slater Nalley to Fans: “Buckle Up… This Is Just the Beginning”
