Yes, there is a new episode of “The Voice” tonight, Wednesday, September 23. Season 30 is continuing its unusually packed premiere week with another round of Blind Auditions beginning at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
Season 30 officially kicked off Monday, September 21, with a two-hour premiere. Instead of making viewers wait an entire week for more auditions, the show returned Tuesday for another hour and is back again tonight for a third consecutive night.
That makes this the first three-night premiere event for the milestone season. In total, viewers are getting four hours of Blind Auditions across Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before the show settles into its normal weekly schedule. NBC
Tonight’s episode begins at 8 p.m. ET and runs for one hour. The Blind Auditions will continue as more singers attempt to earn chair turns from Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green.
After tonight, however, fans should not expect “The Voice” three nights every week. Beginning Monday, September 28, the competition moves back to Mondays, with two-hour episodes starting at 8 p.m. ET during the early part of the season.
Season 30 also brings a very different coaching panel. Clarkson and Levine are back in their familiar red chairs, while Queen Latifah and country star Riley Green are making their debuts as Coaches. Carson Daly has also returned as host.
One of the biggest Blind Audition changes is the new First-In Button. When several Coaches turn for the same singer, the Coach who turned first can use the special advantage to automatically claim that Artist before the singer makes the final choice.
There is an important limitation that should make Coaches think carefully before using it: each Coach gets the First-In Button only once. That means deciding when to activate it could become an important part of the Blind Auditions.
Another major shake-up arrives with Cut Week. Each Coach will send two Artists directly into the Live Shows, while five others compete for one remaining position. After the Top 12 is established, America will vote another Artist into the competition to create the Top 13.
Perhaps the biggest news for longtime viewers is the return of a much larger live portion of the competition. Season 30 will feature six weeks of Live Shows, including special theme episodes built around Dolly Parton, Y2K and TikTok.
Voting is changing too. During the Lives, viewers will be able to vote using SMS text messaging and TikTok, with results announced that same night. The Live Shows will also be simulcast on NBC and Peacock across U.S. time zones, another first for the series.
So fans have one more special premiere-week episode to enjoy tonight before “The Voice” returns to its regular Monday schedule. With more Blind Auditions, the First-In Button, two new Coaches, six weeks of live competition and a completely updated voting system, Season 30 is shaping up to operate very differently from recent seasons.
