Joe Perry Hints at One Last Aerosmith Show: “Something’s Gonna Happen”

It’s been almost a year since Aerosmith officially stepped off the touring stage — but guitarist Joe Perry is giving fans a reason to keep the dream alive.

The rock legends pulled the plug on their Peace Out farewell tour in 2024, after frontman Steven Tyler suffered a fractured larynx just three shows in. Their last official concert was on September 9, 2023, in Elmont, New York. While the injury forced an abrupt and heartbreaking end to what was meant to be a grand goodbye, Perry now says it may not be the final goodbye.

A Ray of Hope for Fans

In a recent interview with WZLX’s Kenny Young, Perry opened the door — if only slightly — to the idea of one last Aerosmith performance.

“We’re actually talking quite a bit,” Perry said. “I know our touring days are over, but… I don’t know… we’re all flesh and blood… I would say, at some point, we’ll all be on the same stage again. If I was a betting man — which I am — I’d say something’s gonna happen. But we’ll see.”

It wasn’t a promise — but it wasn’t a denial either. And for millions of fans still holding onto hope, it’s enough to keep the flame burning.

A Year of Recovery and Reflection

Now 77, Steven Tyler hasn’t retreated from the spotlight entirely. Earlier this year, he took the stage at Black Sabbath’s Back To The Beginning charity concert, delivering a fiery three-song set that included “The Train Kept A-Rollin’,” “Walk This Way,” and a powerful cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.” Surrounded by rock royalty — Ron Wood, Nuno Bettencourt, Tom Morello, Rudy Sarzo, and Travis Barker — Tyler proved his voice still carries thunder.

Meanwhile, Perry has stayed active, but realistic. In a June interview with SiriusXM’s Eddie Trunk, he spoke candidly about the toll touring takes on aging rockers:

“It’s one thing when you’re 25 or 30, but it’s another when you’re up there like us. All that energy you put out on stage — it takes something out of you, physically and emotionally.”

No Tour Plans… But No Farewell Either

There are no scheduled Aerosmith dates, but the band members remain close — especially Perry and Tyler, who reunited on stage in April at a private benefit for Janie’s Fund, Tyler’s charity for young women affected by trauma. It was the first time the two had performed together in nearly two years.

“We talk probably a couple of times a week,” Perry shared. “We’re all alive and well. I know there’s gotta be at least one more Aerosmith gig. I’ve always played like every show’s the last one.”

The Joe Perry Project Takes Center Stage

While fans wait to see if that reunion will happen, Perry is forging ahead with his solo outfit, The Joe Perry Project. The group is set to hit the road this August for eight U.S. dates, with a lineup that’s basically a rock supergroup: Perry, fellow Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford, keyboardist Buck Johnson, The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson, and Stone Temple Pilots members Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz.

Originally, Aerosmith’s Peace Out tour was slated to run into February 2024 with The Black Crowes as special guests. After Tyler’s injury, rescheduled dates were tentatively set for fall 2024 — but ultimately, they never happened.

One Last Ride?

Joe Perry isn’t making promises, but his tone suggests something more than nostalgia — it hints at possibility. Whether it’s one final arena blowout or a single, intimate night, the idea of Aerosmith taking the stage one more time isn’t off the table.

Fans might just need to stay patient… and keep believing.
