Months before Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s marriage officially came to an end, Australian radio host Kyle Sandilands received a private message from Urban that he now believes may have been an early indication that something was wrong.
Sandilands, a longtime friend of the country singer, recently revealed that Urban contacted him before the couple’s separation became public and appeared unusually eager for the two men to meet in person.
According to Sandilands, Urban sent him a message saying, “Bro, when I get there, we MUST catch up.” At the time, the radio personality didn’t think there was anything particularly significant about it.
Looking back after everything that happened, however, Sandilands sees the message differently.
He explained that he never ended up having that conversation with Urban. Then, when news emerged that Urban and Kidman were separating after nearly two decades of marriage, he suddenly remembered how strongly his friend had emphasized that they needed to talk.
Sandilands admitted that he hadn’t initially connected the two things. In hindsight, he wondered whether Urban had been preparing to confide in him about difficulties in his marriage before the public knew anything was happening.
There is no confirmation from Urban that the message actually concerned Kidman, so Sandilands’ interpretation remains speculation. Still, the timing has made the previously ordinary-looking text considerably more intriguing.
The marriage was already approaching a major turning point.
Kidman filed for divorce in September 2025, citing irreconcilable differences after she and Urban had reportedly been living separately. Their divorce was finalized in January 2026, ending a marriage that began in Sydney in 2006.

The former couple share two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, and both have largely avoided publicly revealing the private details that led to the breakdown of their marriage.
There were, however, other moments before the separation announcement that attracted attention afterward.
During a July 2025 radio interview, Urban was asked a personal question involving Kidman and her acting work. The interview abruptly moved on, creating speculation at the time about his reaction. Reports later emphasized that the question had been considered particularly personal and uncomfortable.
Once the separation became public, moments like that—and Sandilands’ private message—were inevitably viewed through a completely different lens.
Sandilands has also made clear that he isn’t interested in choosing sides between his longtime friend and Kidman.
Instead, his revelation provides a small glimpse into what may have been happening privately during a period when Urban and Kidman were still publicly associated with one of entertainment’s longest-running marriages.
The timing is especially interesting now because both stars are beginning to speak more openly about life after the divorce.
Kidman recently acknowledged that she once imagined her future looking very different. In a candid interview, the 59-year-old actress described experiencing periods of vulnerability while adjusting to unexpected changes in her life, while emphasizing that she remains hopeful about whatever comes next.
Urban has taken a similarly reflective approach. In his first post-divorce interview, he spoke about simplifying his life and concentrating on how he approaches each new day rather than publicly dissecting what happened in his marriage.
That makes Sandilands’ story particularly revealing—not because it proves exactly what Urban was thinking, but because it suggests there may have been conversations the singer wanted to have with trusted friends long before fans realized his marriage was ending.
Sandilands never got to hear what Urban wanted to tell him.
And that’s ultimately the mystery surrounding the message. Was Keith Urban preparing to tell one of his longtime friends that his marriage was falling apart months before the world found out? Sandilands can’t say for certain—but after the divorce, those few words suddenly carry much more weight than they did when he first received them.
