Kelly Osbourne has spoken out strongly in defense of her late father, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, after WWE superstar Becky Lynch made an offhand remark during a recent episode of WWE Raw that many felt crossed the line.
The comment came during the August 25th broadcast, when Lynch referenced Birmingham, Ozzy’s hometown, saying the Prince of Darkness was “the only good thing” to come out of the city. The line, intended as part of her on-screen villain persona, was met with audible boos from the crowd and sparked backlash from fans both inside and outside the wrestling world.
Kelly Osbourne, never one to shy away from defending her family, responded with emotion and clarity on social media. “[@BeckyLynchWWE] you are a disrespectful dirtbag! Birmingham would not piss on you if you were on fire. #BirminghamForever,” she posted, adding, “Shame on the WWE for allowing such things to be said about my father and his home!!!”
While some acknowledged Lynch’s character is designed to provoke reactions, many agreed the comment came at a particularly sensitive time. Ozzy Osbourne, who recently passed away, had just spent his final months in Birmingham for his emotional Back to the Beginning farewell concerts—one last tribute to the city that shaped his legendary journey.
The connection between Ozzy and WWE goes far deeper than a passing mention. A longtime friend and collaborator of the brand, Ozzy made his WrestleMania debut in 1986 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021. He and wife Sharon even guest-hosted an episode of Raw in 2009, solidifying his status as a respected figure among fans of both metal and wrestling.
Kelly, still grieving the loss of her father, previously shared how the support of fans has helped her through waves of sadness. “Knowing my family are not alone in our pain makes a difference,” she said. The Osbourne family has received a steady stream of love from across the music world, with tributes pouring in from artists like Metallica and Pantera. In fact, Pantera recently announced a temporary tour pause to allow guitarist Zakk Wylde—a longtime Osbourne collaborator—time to mourn.
As of now, Becky Lynch has not issued a public apology regarding her remark. Whether her words were meant in character or not, the moment served as a reminder of the deep emotional ties fans and family alike hold for a man who was far more than just a rock star.
