Mackenzie Sol Earns Golden Buzzer on AGT After Childhood Audition for Simon Cowell

Mackenzie Sol has returned to the talent-show spotlight in a full-circle moment that feels almost impossible to script.

The British singer auditioned for America’s Got Talent Season 21 and found himself once again standing in front of Simon Cowell, more than two decades after first performing for him as a child.

Mackenzie was only 4 years old when he auditioned for The X Factor in the United Kingdom. At the time, he was far too young to move forward properly in the competition, but the moment stayed with him for the rest of his life.

During his AGT appearance, he looked back on that childhood audition backstage with host Terry Crews. Mackenzie said that moment was when he first knew he wanted to become a singer.

Now 25, Mackenzie stepped onto the AGT stage with years of experience, nerves, and unfinished dreams behind him. His family watched from the audience as he prepared to perform for Cowell again.

Before singing, Mackenzie admitted that he hoped Simon might remember him, even though he knew he looked nothing like the little boy who had once auditioned for him.

When he reminded Simon that they had met before, the judge played along and said he thought he recognized him. Mackenzie then explained that he had auditioned for him when he was just 4 years old.

The moment made the room laugh, but it also gave the audition a deeper meaning. This was not just another singer trying to get noticed; it was someone returning to the very judge who had unknowingly helped start his dream.

Mackenzie performed “back to friends” by Sombr, turning the song into a polished and emotional vocal moment. His performance earned a standing ovation from the judges and the audience.

Mel B was especially moved by what she heard. After praising him as “absolutely, extraordinarily fabulous,” she hit the Golden Buzzer and sent him straight through to the live shows.

The Golden Buzzer made the moment even more emotional because it connected Mackenzie’s childhood dream to a real breakthrough on one of the biggest talent stages in the world.

Before AGT, Mackenzie had already taken another major shot at television fame. He competed on American Idol Season 22 in 2024, where he reached the Top 20 before being eliminated.

Since then, he has continued building his music career through social media and original releases. Talent Recap reported that he has millions of followers across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, along with multiple songs released in recent years.

That background shows Mackenzie was not waiting around for luck. He kept performing, posting, releasing music, and trying to prove he was more than a familiar face from past auditions.

Now, after first meeting Simon Cowell as a 4-year-old with a dream, Mackenzie Sol has returned as a grown artist with a Golden Buzzer, a second chance, and the kind of full-circle story AGT fans love most.
