Mother of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas Speaks Again as Investigation Into Fatal Rope Jump Deepens

The mother of 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas is speaking again as new details continue to emerge in the investigation into her daughter’s fatal rope-jump fall in Brazil. What was meant to be an adventure experience has become a criminal case centered on a missing safety rope, a missing camera, and unanswered questions about responsibility.

Maria Eduarda died on June 13 after being launched from the Ponte do Esqueleto, known as Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, São Paulo. Investigators say she was released from the bridge during a rope-jumping activity without being attached to the safety equipment that should have protected her.

Her mother has already shared emotional tributes online, mourning the daughter she described with deep love and pain. In one public message, she expressed the heartbreak of losing Maria Eduarda so suddenly, while supporters across Brazil continued sending condolences to the family.

The renewed attention comes as reports say official documents and investigative findings are adding more weight to the family’s grief. While I found reports about the mother’s tributes and the investigation, I did not find a reliable public source showing the full official death certificate itself, so I am not going to invent details from it.

What investigators have made clear is that Maria Eduarda was not properly connected to the main safety rope before being released. Brazilian police said the young woman was launched in a rope-jump style activity, and bystanders reportedly realized too late that the rope had been left behind.

Three instructors have been arrested and charged in the case. They have been identified in multiple reports as Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, Vitor de Freitas Gonçalves, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra.

Authorities have accused the men of homicide with dolus eventualis, a Brazilian legal concept meaning prosecutors believe they accepted a serious risk. If convicted, reports say they could face prison sentences ranging from six to 30 years.

One of the most troubling parts of the case is the explanation the instructors reportedly gave to police. During questioning, they allegedly said they could not remember who was supposed to attach the rope or complete the final safety check before Maria Eduarda was released.

That explanation has only intensified public anger. For Maria Eduarda’s family, the question is painfully simple: how could multiple people involved in a high-risk activity fail to notice that the most important safety connection was missing?

Reports also say two of the instructors tried to flee after the incident and were later found in a wooded area with the help of a military helicopter. That alleged attempt to leave the scene has become another major focus of the investigation.

Investigators are also searching for a missing GoPro-style or 360-degree camera that Maria Eduarda reportedly used during the activity. A witness claimed someone connected to the operation removed the camera after the fall, but police have not recovered it.

That missing camera could be important because it may have captured the final safety preparations before Maria Eduarda was released from the bridge. Police are still trying to determine where the device went and whether it was removed before authorities secured the scene.

The operation itself is also under scrutiny. Reports say the rope-jumping activity was unauthorized, raising questions about whether the group had proper permission, safety procedures, emergency plans, or trained oversight for such a dangerous event.

Maria Eduarda had shared posts from the outing shortly before the tragedy, including a lighthearted message about the bridge jump. Those final posts have taken on a painful meaning for her family and friends, who are now remembering a young woman whose life ended during what should have been a controlled experience.

As her mother speaks through grief and investigators continue gathering evidence, the case remains focused on accountability. The family is left mourning a daughter, while police try to answer how Maria Eduarda was launched from a bridge without the rope that was supposed to keep her safe.
