Breanna Nix, one of the three finalists from the 2025 season of American Idol, is clearing up some of the confusion surrounding her finale appearance and shedding more light on the role her husband, Austin Nix, played in getting her to the national stage.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Breanna opened up about how close she came to skipping the audition altogether. “My husband forced me. I told him, ‘I don’t have any song. I didn’t practice anything. I’m not doing it.’ And he said, ‘Yes, you are.’ No regrets,” she said. “This has changed my life. If I were to go home right now, I would be so incredibly blessed that I went on American Idol. It’s truly been impactful for me in so many different areas.”
Breanna also revealed that she didn’t even tell anyone when she submitted her initial audition video. The whole thing was low-key — just a leap of faith, supported quietly by the person who knew her best. She described Austin as a “musical man,” someone who can play almost any instrument by ear, even if he’s never touched it before. “God put us together. We travel and fill in for churches that don’t have worship teams or music for that service. Now I’m on American Idol,” she said. “What’s going on? I started out in my room playing two chords on the piano that were not the right ones for the song, and now I’m on American Idol.”
Breanna, a stay-at-home mom from Texas, has been open about her love for family and faith throughout the season. She and Austin share a son, Emerson, who famously appeared onstage — peacefully sleeping — during Breanna’s finale performance of “In Jesus Name (God of Possible).” It was a moment that captured hearts nationwide.
Austin, too, has publicly shared his pride in Breanna. In a 2021 Instagram post celebrating their second anniversary, he wrote, “Happy 2 Year Anniversary Baby! So much has happened since we first met! Marrying you was one of the best decisions I ever made! I am so happy for the little family we now have together!! Emerson has your personality! Haha! Words can’t express how happy I am to be a parent with you!!! I will Love You till we die.❤️ You’re My Forever, and I’m your Always!! I Love You!!!” Breanna responded in the comments with a simple and heartfelt “I love you.”
While she may not have taken home the Idol crown, Breanna Nix’s journey struck a deep chord — and it’s clear her story is just beginning.
