The Voice has featured some of the biggest names in music since its debut in 2011, but convincing major stars to spend months turning chairs, mentoring singers and filming live television doesn’t come cheaply.
NBC doesn’t publicly confirm every coach’s contract, so most salary numbers attached to The Voice come from entertainment-industry reports rather than official payroll records. Still, those reports reveal just how valuable a seat in one of the famous red chairs can be.
Some newer coaches have reportedly entered the show at around the $8 million-per-season level. Niall Horan, Camila Cabello and Chance the Rapper have all been linked to deals in roughly that range during their respective coaching runs.
Other established stars have reportedly commanded significantly more. Gwen Stefani has been associated with salaries around $13 million per season, while John Legend has also reportedly earned approximately $13 million during some of his seasons.
Reba McEntire was similarly reported to have landed a deal in the neighborhood of $13 million when she became a full-time coach, putting her among the show’s higher-paid stars.
Blake Shelton’s paycheck became especially notable because of how long he stayed. The country star served as a coach for 23 seasons and was reportedly earning around $13 million per season during the later portion of his run.
Those numbers become extraordinary when multiplied across years of appearances. Blake’s longevity meant his overall earnings from the show were potentially far greater than coaches who received larger individual-season salaries but stayed for far less time.
Kelly Clarkson has reportedly been another of The Voice’s highest earners. Estimates have placed her compensation at approximately $14 million to $15 million per season during portions of her coaching run.
Christina Aguilera, one of the show’s original coaches, was also associated with unusually large contracts. Reports have estimated that she earned as much as roughly $17 million during certain seasons.
But even those numbers reportedly weren’t enough to claim the top position.
When Ariana Grande joined The Voice for Season 21 in 2021, reports suggested NBC offered her an enormous deal worth somewhere between $20 million and $25 million for a single season.
If those estimates are accurate, Ariana’s contract made her the highest-paid coach reported in the history of the American version of The Voice.
What makes that figure particularly surprising is that Ariana only served as a coach for one season. Blake spent more than a decade building his connection with the program, while Kelly, Adam Levine, Gwen and several others returned multiple times.
The salaries also show that winning isn’t necessarily what determines a coach’s paycheck. Celebrity profile, negotiating power, scheduling demands and the value a star brings to ratings and promotion can all influence reported contracts.
The current Season 30 lineup includes Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah and Riley Green, although reliable public figures for every one of their 2026 contracts have not been disclosed.
So while viewers see plenty of competition between the singers each week, there’s another remarkable set of numbers behind those red chairs. And based on widely reported estimates, Ariana Grande’s roughly $20–25 million single-season deal remains the paycheck that everyone else has been chasing.
