‘The Voice’ Season 30 Coaches Join Forces for Soulful ‘The Weight’ Performance as Queen Latifah and Kelly Clarkson Shine

“The Voice” Season 30 is already giving fans a taste of its new coaching chemistry. Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green came together for a special performance of The Band’s 1968 classic “The Weight,” bringing four noticeably different musical backgrounds onto one stage.

The performance continues a familiar “Voice” tradition in which the Coaches collaborate musically around the beginning of a season. This time, the song’s roots-rock and soulful character gave each member of the Season 30 panel an opportunity to contribute something distinctive.

Riley Green begins the performance on acoustic guitar, establishing its relaxed, country-influenced sound before the vocals fully take over. Although Green does not immediately sing a solo verse, his guitar helps establish the musical foundation for the arrangement.

Adam Levine then takes his place behind the drums and handles the opening verse. Instead of simply standing at a microphone, the Maroon 5 frontman shows another side of his musicianship by singing while playing drums before the other three Coaches join him for the chorus.

When all four voices come together, the performance demonstrates how unusual this Season 30 lineup is. Levine brings pop-rock experience, Green represents modern country, Queen Latifah draws from hip-hop and soul, and Clarkson supplies the powerhouse pop and soul vocals that have become central to her career.

Queen Latifah receives her own opportunity to take the spotlight during the next section. Her rich, soulful delivery provides one of the performance’s strongest contrasts and gives viewers an early look at the musical presence she will bring to her first season as a Coach.

Green later takes a solo verse while continuing to play acoustic guitar. His portion gives the classic song a stronger country flavor and demonstrates why his addition could be particularly important when country Artists begin choosing between Coaches during the Blind Auditions.

Clarkson saves one of the biggest vocal moments for the ending. Performing barefoot, she steps forward for her solo section and closes the performance with the kind of powerful, soulful delivery that has made her one of “The Voice’s” most successful returning Coaches.

Behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage also showed the Coaches appearing comfortable together before filming the finished number. Levine has spoken positively about the chemistry within the new group, while the rehearsal offered an early indication that the two veterans and two newcomers were settling into their roles.

The choice of “The Weight” is fitting for such a varied lineup. Originally released by The Band in 1968, the song’s combination of rock, folk, country and soul influences gives performers considerable room to interpret it without abandoning the character of the original recording.

The collaboration also serves as an introduction to Season 30’s unusual coaching panel. Clarkson and Levine are returning “Voice” veterans, while Queen Latifah and Green will make their coaching debuts. NBC confirms all four as the Coaches for the milestone season, with Carson Daly returning as host.

Fans will get to see much more of their chemistry when “The Voice” Season 30 premieres Monday, September 21, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, beginning a three-night premiere event. But their performance of “The Weight” has already offered an early preview: Levine behind the drums, Green on guitar, Queen Latifah bringing soulful authority and Clarkson delivering the soaring finish.
