The Voice is officially counting down to its milestone 30th season, and viewers finally know exactly when the famous red chairs will start turning again. The new season will premiere on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET, bringing together a coaching panel that combines two returning favorites with two completely new faces.
This time around, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine will return to the competition, while Queen Latifah and Riley Green will make their debuts as full-time coaches. The unusual combination of personalities and musical backgrounds has already made Season 30 feel considerably different from recent editions.
Kelly’s return is particularly significant for longtime viewers. She has become one of the most successful coaches in the history of the competition, earning multiple victories while developing a reputation for fighting hard during the Blind Auditions whenever she hears an artist she wants.
Adam, meanwhile, brings another familiar presence back to the panel. As one of the show’s original coaches, his competitive personality and long history of playful rivalries helped shape the early years of The Voice. Having both Adam and Kelly back at the same time gives the new season plenty of veteran experience.
But much of the early attention is surrounding Queen Latifah.
The Grammy-winning entertainer has spent decades moving between hip-hop, R&B, jazz, acting and television, giving her one of the most diverse backgrounds of any coach to sit in a red chair. Early reports from production have suggested that she isn’t afraid to give contestants straightforward feedback, potentially creating a very different coaching style from what viewers are accustomed to.
Country star Riley Green represents the other major unknown. Although he’s accustomed to performing for enormous audiences, serving as a coach on a major television competition puts him in a completely different position. Instead of worrying only about his own performance, he’ll have to convince contestants to choose his team and then guide them through the competition.
One pairing, however, has generated especially enthusiastic reactions: Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah.
After the show revealed the new lineup, fans quickly expressed excitement about seeing the two women together. Their chemistry isn’t completely untested, either. Kelly and Latifah previously shared a memorable musical moment during a television appearance in 2018, making viewers particularly curious about how that chemistry will translate when they’re competing against each other.
This time, of course, they won’t simply be performing together.
Once the Blind Auditions begin, Kelly and Latifah could find themselves battling for exactly the same singers. If both turn their chairs for an artist, each will have to convince that contestant that her team offers the better path through the competition.
The same applies to Adam and Riley, potentially creating several interesting rivalries across the panel. Kelly and Adam already understand the strategy involved in winning over contestants, while Latifah and Riley enter without years of Voice experience shaping their decisions.
NBC is also making the premiere week feel appropriately large for Season 30. The opening week is expected to give viewers multiple nights of competition, allowing the Blind Auditions to begin immediately as the four coaches start building their teams.
Season 30 is especially important because it arrives immediately before another major transformation for the franchise. In spring 2027, The Voice: Celebrity will introduce famous contestants and a substantially different format, with Queen Latifah and Riley Green continuing as coaches alongside Joe Jonas.
That makes this fall the first opportunity for viewers to see whether the two rookie coaches have what it takes before they move into the franchise’s next experiment.
For now, however, all attention is on September 21.
With Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine returning, Queen Latifah and Riley Green making their coaching debuts, and fans already fascinated by the Kelly-Latifah dynamic, The Voice Season 30 has plenty of reasons to feel different before the first contestant even steps onto the Blind Audition stage.
