Brooklyn Marie may be only 14 years old, but the young singer is already creating a huge conversation on The Voice Season 30. Her emotional Blind Audition of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Traitor” earned two chair turns and even sparked an unexpected comparison to country legend Dolly Parton.
The Alexandria, Minnesota, singer walked onto the stage with her guitar and delivered a softer, emotional interpretation of the hit song. Rather than trying to overpower the performance, Brooklyn relied on her distinctive tone and connection to the lyrics.
Queen Latifah was one of the first Coaches to recognize something different in Brooklyn’s voice and turned her chair. Kelly Clarkson eventually followed, giving the teenager two Coaches to choose from.
But the biggest surprise came when the Coaches discovered Brooklyn was only 14 years old. Queen Latifah was visibly stunned by the revelation, especially after hearing the maturity Brooklyn had brought to such an emotional song.
Adam Levine didn’t turn his chair, but afterward he admitted that he wished he had. He was particularly impressed by how much Brooklyn already had happening musically at such a young age.
Riley Green also praised the teenager despite not turning. In fact, his compliment was unusual—he essentially told Brooklyn that she was already such a strong singer that he wasn’t sure how much he could help her.
The reaction outside the Coaches’ chairs was just as interesting. Some viewers listening to Brooklyn’s distinctive vocal tone began comparing elements of her sound to Dolly Parton.
Fans pointed particularly to the melodic quality of her voice and a subtle vocal characteristic that reminded them of Dolly. Others simply said they could hear the country legend in Brooklyn’s sound.
The Dolly comparisons are especially interesting because Brooklyn performed an Olivia Rodrigo song rather than a traditional country classic. Her performance showed how her voice can bring country and acoustic qualities to a modern pop song.
Brooklyn also wasn’t completely new to performing before The Voice. Her full name is Brooklyn Marie Ostlund, and she had already released original music, including the songs “Tired” and “i miss u.” She has also gained experience performing live and sharing covers and original material.
When it finally came time to choose between Kelly and Queen Latifah, Brooklyn revealed where she had wanted to go all along. She selected Kelly Clarkson, officially becoming a member of Team Kelly.
Kelly was thrilled with the decision and praised the purity and special quality of Brooklyn’s voice. After a two-chair turn, praise from all four Coaches and fans already comparing her sound to Dolly Parton, the 14-year-old has certainly given viewers a reason to remember her name as Season 30 continues.
