Lexi Stephens delivered one of the standout Blind Auditions of “The Voice” Season 30 when the 23-year-old New York singer stepped onto the stage and performed Sienna Spiro’s “Die on This Hill.” Her emotional delivery quickly caught the attention of the entire coaching panel.
Adam Levine was the first Coach to turn his chair, reacting almost immediately to Lexi’s voice. Kelly Clarkson and Riley Green soon followed, before Queen Latifah completed the moment by turning as well and giving Lexi an impressive four-chair turn.
By the end of the performance, all four Coaches were facing Lexi and preparing to fight for her. The combination of her powerful belt and the emotion she brought to the song made her one of the most sought-after singers of premiere week.
Adam was especially determined to land her. He told Lexi that he was prepared to get “scrappy” in the recruiting battle because he wanted to convince her that he was the right Coach for her.
Then Adam delivered perhaps the biggest compliment of the audition. He described Lexi’s performance as possibly the best Blind Audition he had heard and told the 23-year-old that he believed she could potentially win the entire competition.
Queen Latifah was equally impressed, describing Lexi’s performance as “masterful.” Riley also praised her heavily, saying she was probably the most talented person he had seen come across the stage at that point in the competition.
Instead of promising to completely reshape her as a singer, Riley took a different approach. He admitted he wasn’t sure how much he could actually teach someone who already sounded so developed, but said he wanted the opportunity to collaborate with her. He even walked over to introduce himself to Lexi’s father.
Kelly focused her pitch on experience. Having gone through a televised singing competition herself and later winning “The Voice” multiple times as a Coach, she argued that she understood how to navigate the pressures and strategic decisions that come with a competition like this.
Lexi’s journey to the stage had already included years of musical preparation. Originally from Albany, New York, she attended Palm Harbor University High School in Florida, where she served as vice president of the school’s a cappella group, The After School Specials.
She later attended the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, studying musical theater and songwriting. She has also built an online following by sharing covers, meaning “The Voice” was far from her first serious step toward pursuing music professionally.
Lexi had also dreamed about appearing on the show for years. After her audition, she shared that she had watched “The Voice” since she was little and described finally stepping onto its famous stage as a surreal experience.
Her Blind Audition ended with all four Coaches wanting her and Adam already talking about her as someone capable of winning. Whatever happens next, Lexi’s performance of “Die on This Hill” gave the 23-year-old exactly the kind of introduction singers hope for on “The Voice”—four chairs, enormous praise and an entire coaching panel fighting for the chance to work with her.
